About the job

Do you want to design software-defined networks from the ground up for the Armed Forces' new digital infrastructure? Do you have solid experience with modern networks, automation and secure infrastructure, and can you translate complex technology into robust, implementable designs?

About us

The Program for Digital and Operational Transformation aims to secure the organisation's future IT support, and thus contribute to the digital transformation and to strengthening the Armed Forces' combat power.

You will become part of the Digital Backbone department, which is responsible for the concrete establishment of the platform. It is an IT environment that is unique in size, task and characteristics, and with colleagues ranging from unskilled to researchers.

The positions are located in the section for technical architecture, design and engineering, which is being established, and which translates architecture, standards and operational needs into concrete technical designs for the Armed Forces' new digital infrastructure.

We are building the infrastructure from the ground up, and think of software-defined networks, automation, segmentation and policy-based control as a fundamental part of the platform from the start. The choices will have great significance for the Armed Forces' digital infrastructure many years to come.

About the positions

As a Senior Software Defined Network Design Specialist you will play a key role in the design of the Armed Forces' future software-defined network infrastructure. You are involved as the foundation is laid – not only when the solutions have already been decided.

You should be able to move from architectural principles, security requirements and operational needs to concrete, coherent and implementable network designs. At the same time you actively bring your technical experience into dialogue with enterprise and solution architects, so design choices are ambitious, realistic and robust.

You will share responsibility for network design for a modern Sovereign Private Cloud platform, which among other things shall support VMaaS, CaaS and BMaaS. The solutions must be able to operate in environments with high demands for performance, compliance, segmentation, isolation, security and operational robustness.

You will work closely with architects, other design specialists, engineers, security specialists, project managers and suppliers from the initial technical decisions to implementation, initial operation and further development.

You will work with the technology in depth and influence some of the fundamental decisions about how the Armed Forces' future network infrastructure should be built.

We guarantee a varied daily life in an environment with start-up spirit, where a large responsibility goes hand in hand with significant influence. You will have the opportunity for flexible working hours, personal and professional competence development, an employer-funded pension scheme and a paid lunch break.

About you

Your educational background is not decisive, and you are probably not a specialist in everything, but your technical heft and ability to create overview in complex environments are very important. We expect you to have solid and long-standing experience with networks and a deep understanding of how complex network solutions are designed, implemented, automated, troubleshooted and operated. Experience from environments with high isolation, special classification requirements or high compliance requirements is an advantage, but not a prerequisite.

The position can naturally be the next step from e.g. Senior Network Engineer, SDN Engineer, Datacenter Network Specialist, Network Automation Engineer or Technical Lead to a more design-oriented role without giving up the technical professionalism. Perhaps you are already working with design and architecture, or you are the experienced specialist others turn to when a network design needs to be assessed, automation and networking need to work together, or a complex technical choice must be made.

We place a high value on both professionalism and collaboration. You share your knowledge, challenge constructively and contribute to an environment characterized by high professionalism, trust and good cooperation.

You master technical English and have a driving licence for a standard car (category B).

Conditions

If you are an academic, you will be employed under the applicable collective agreement between the Ministry of Finance and a number of academic organisations for academics in the state (Academic Agreement).

If you have an IT professional education or another relevant education, you will be employed under the applicable Common Agreement between the Ministry of Finance and Public Employees – The State Area (OAO-S Common Agreement) and the organisational agreement for office clerks, laboratory technicians and IT staff.

Depending on your qualifications and competences, we tailor the role. There is a possibility for additional pay negotiations. There is a employer-funded pension plan tied to the position.

Your daily workplace is in Karup or Aalborg. You should expect regular travel to all our locations.

As an employee within the Ministry of Defence's area, you are covered by some special terms. You must, among other things, be able to obtain security clearance and maintain the clearance throughout the employment relationship.

You have a duty as an employee to render service outside the country's borders, including at units in international operations with a view to participating in conflict prevention, peacekeeping, peacemaking, humanitarian and other similar operations.
