About the job

Do you have strong skills in finance and accounting, and would you like to advise and support the Royal Danish Air Force's Air Control Wing? Do you thrive at the intersection of classic financial management, optimization, operations and advisory, ensuring the optimal use of allocated financial resources?

Then it may be you we are looking for!

Who are we?

The Economics and Operations Staff is a staff under the Defence Command in the Defence Headquarters. The Economics and Operations Staff's employees advise managers at all levels in the Defence Forces—from the Defence Chief to the local manager with budget responsibility.

We advise across branches, staff and commands with different task portfolios, and we advise nationally and internationally. It is therefore a very broad and deep area of responsibility with many varied tasks, carried out by both civilian and military employees with different professional backgrounds. Together we have the responsibility to create the basis for good financial management across the Defence Command.

We are geographically located around the country at Defence units. Your future workplace is physically located at Karup Air Base in Central Jutland.

What does your everyday look like

You will be part of the Royal Danish Air Force's 3rd economy element, supporting the Air Force's non-flying units, including Air Control Wing at Karup.

You will support the operation and governance of the authority's finances in collaboration with the authority's leadership. You will sit physically at Air Control Wing and participate in the daily life of the authority. In addition, you will be able to draw on the knowledge and help from the other colleagues in the element and colleagues in the Air Force's other economy elements.

Your main areas of responsibility and tasks include, among others

  • Follow-up on completed activities and resource consumption.
  • Preparation and follow-up on budgets.
  • Preparation of monthly reporting and forecasting.
  • Preparation of data-supported analyses and decision proposals for, among other things, the optimization of efficient use of resources.
  • Ongoing advising of budget-responsible managers on financial operations and governance.
  • Financial management and reporting in connection with the implementation of initiatives decided in the defence agreement 2025-2033.
  • Contribution to case proposals, notes, statements etc. with financial and administrative input.
  • Contribution to optimized, uniform and standardized workflows as well as principles and guidelines in the financial area.
  • Participation in cross-cutting financial projects and initiatives.

Since you sit alone, there will be a large degree of self-management, where you will have to keep an overview and prioritize between tasks.

Why choose us?

We offer a job where you get to use and develop your professional skills and apply them broadly across several areas. The Defence Command is a complex entity and provides a solid foundation for professional development and learning within the financial area. Therefore, we work purposefully with your competence development, and we prioritize developing, challenging and lifting your competences.

We have a strong focus on individual well-being and embrace the whole person; therefore we offer a high degree of flexibility in work - including flexible meeting times, a 37-hour work week with paid lunch break and the possibility of working from home on some days.

Who are you?

You have a financial background, where experience in a politically led organization or from the Defence Forces is an advantage, but not a requirement. You will probably come with a relevant economic education, preferably in public administration or economics, but the specific education is not important to us. Whether you are a recent graduate or experienced is not decisive for us; what matters more is that you want to learn something about the Defence Forces and want to contribute to good financial management that ensures we get the most defence for the money.

In addition, we value that you

  • are independent, holistic and an engaged colleague who can work across levels and professional boundaries.
  • are good at communicating both in writing and orally to support your advice to the budget-responsible managers.
  • are ready to challenge budget-responsible managers with many years of experience in a constructive way.
  • are mathematically inclined and at the same time want to get behind the numbers and connect them to the operational world in which soldiers live. With your background and experience you can translate numbers, data and information into concrete knowledge and decision proposals to support financial management in the Defence Forces.

Your success in the position calls for sound judgment and the ability to see the bigger picture. It is important that you approach your tasks in a solution-oriented way with a strong sense of responsibility and initiative. It also means that you continuously consult and reflect with your colleagues and other stakeholders. You are able to build good relations and work purposefully to create a solid network that ensures good task execution of high quality.

Employment terms

If you are an academic, you will be employed in accordance with the applicable collective agreement between the Ministry of Finance and a number of academic organizations for academics in the state (Academic Staff Agreement).

The workplace is in Karup (Viborg municipality).

As an employee in the Ministry of Defence, you are subject to certain special conditions. You must be able to obtain a security clearance and maintain the security clearance throughout the employment relationship.
