Skilled educator/superhero for a fixed-term position in the Special Kindergarten Solsikken

SUPERPOWERS WANTED!

If you are a superhero in special education, now is your chance to become part of the special kindergarten Solsikken.

Due to an increase in the number of children, we are seeking a skilled educator in a temporary position. Initially the position runs from December 1, 2026 through July 31, 2027, with the possibility of extension.

At Solsikken we welcome children aged 0-6 years who due to significantly and permanently reduced mental and/or physical functioning have a special need for pedagogical support and treatment that cannot be covered in a regular day care. A characteristic of the children is that they need to be in a sheltered special education treatment environment. At Solsikken we believe that all children contain unique superpowers. With us the children have the opportunity to discover, develop and use their strengths in an environment where they are seen, heard and taken seriously.

An important focus area is alternative and augmentative communication (AAC). We know that every child has a right to a language – and with us we create frameworks where children can express themselves through signs, pictures, communication boards, technology and body language. In this way each child has the opportunity to have their voice heard. At Solsikken the staff have relevant education and courses that support the child’s communication.

We at Solsikken focus on good, constructive parental collaboration, where we believe that parents are the most important sparring partner regarding the child’s well-being.

Structure and predictability are part of our superpower as adults. We plan the day so that the children experience calm, recognizability and clarity. At the same time we create space for play, curiosity and togetherness.

At Solsikken we believe that adults have the responsibility for the good relationship with the children.

We do not see limitations, but potentials. Our task is to support the children in believing in themselves, daring to take steps forward and feeling the joy of being part of a safe community.

Your competencies

As an employee at Solsikken you must have a big heart for the specialist field and participate in a close and binding interdisciplinary collaboration.

The competencies we are looking for in our new colleagues are

• high pedagogical professionalism
• preferably experience with special education and particularly experience with autism education
• good collaboration skills and ability to participate in a close and committed interdisciplinary collaboration both internally and externally
• experience with AAC (ASK), or a desire to gain knowledge in this area
• possesses a resource-oriented view of children and parents
• strength in relationship work with children and adults

You should also

• be robust, structured and patient
• have a positive view of people and children
• be good at expressing yourself both verbally and in writing
• have a sense of humor 😊
• able to show calm and care for children and parents
