About the job
Can you see professionalism in everyday small steps?
At the forensic-psychiatric ward B1 we are seeking a social- and health care assistant who is motivated by longer patient trajectories — and by a job where structure, relationships, observations and joint agreements over time can make a difference.
Here professionalism is not only about what happens in meetings and in treatment plans. It is also about what happens in everyday life: in conversations, in the medication room, in ADL training, on the walk, in setting boundaries and in the calm presence when a patient has difficulty finding footing.
It is exactly there, your professionalism makes a difference.
Who are we?
B1 is a closed forensic-psychiatric inpatient ward at the Psychiatric Center Sct. Hans in Roskilde. We have 16 patients with longer courses.
The patients often have serious mental disorders — typically psychotic disorders such as schizophrenia — and may also have substance use, cognitive difficulties and social challenges. The patients have a treatment order, and the admission has a crime-prevention purpose.
That means our task concerns both treatment, safety, relationships, boundaries, everyday structure and holistic nursing.
Some days it is about medication, observations, risk assessments, documentation and joint agreements.
Other days it is about supporting a patient to bathe, eat, get out the door, participate in an activity — or simply get through the day without everything collapsing.
Both parts are professionalism.
You will spend your daily life in Udsigten — a modern building close to Roskilde Fjord with good conditions for treatment, activities and work environment. But good conditions do not do it alone. It is the everyday, the relationships and the shared professional culture that make the difference.
What does a social- and health care assistant do at B1?
As a social- and health care assistant at B1 you have a central role in the patients' everyday life and in the daily treatment and milieu work.
You contribute with observations, relational work, medication administration, milieu therapy, support for ADL, activities and everyday coping. You help translate joint agreements and treatment plans into concrete practice in the environment.
You work closely with nurses, social educators, doctors, psychologist, social worker, occupational therapist and ward management.
You will among other things work with
- Daily structure, ADL and everyday coping.
- Relational work and milieu therapy in daily contact with patients.
- Observation of changes in patients' mental and physical condition.
- Medication administration and observation of effects and side effects.
- Joint agreements, risk assessments, de-escalation and prevention of conflicts.
- Activities, 1:1 outings and support for meaningful engagement.
- Documentation of relevant observations, incidents and agreements.
- Collaboration with patients, relatives, networks and relevant partners when it is part of the patient pathway.
- Clear handover, shared overview and a safe environment for both patients and colleagues.
There are two daily gatherings in the ward where we coordinate the day, distribute tasks and ensure a shared overview.
Who are you?
You are a licensed social- and health care assistant and have an interest in psychiatry.
You do not need to have experience from forensic psychiatry. Psychiatric experience is an advantage, but not a requirement. The most important is that you want to learn the specialty and can see meaning in supporting patients in longer trajectories.
We are looking for you who
- Can work calmly and structurally.
- Are good at creating contact and working relationally in everyday life.
- Can hold fast to joint agreements and clear boundaries.
- Have a sense for both mental and somatic state.
- Are thorough in medication administration, observations and documentation.
- Can be firm without being harsh.
- Can be caring without becoming boundaryless.
- Can collaborate closely with other professional groups and contribute with your SSA professionalism.
- Can see meaning in small progress.
- Can hold on, even when development is slow.
You may also have a sense of humor.
Not humor that hurts patients or colleagues. But the humor that makes it possible to breathe in a complex everyday life and still want to come in again tomorrow.
You are not alone
At B1 safety and collaboration are a joint task.
In working with patients there is always a colleague nearby whom you can see or hear. We do not work alone.
You will get
- Thorough introduction.
- Mentor program.
- Four-day course in conflict management.
- Training in safety, procedures and common frameworks.
- Close professional sparring.
- Supervision.
- Colleagues who help each other.
- Management close to daily life.
You gradually learn the specialty through introduction, training, sparring and experience in practice.
We do not expect you to know forensic psychiatry from day one. The most important is that you come with professional curiosity, integrity and a desire to become skilled together with us.
What do we offer?
We offer a workplace with high professionalism, clear boundaries and a staff group that takes the task seriously, but where there is also room for humor and humanity in daily life.
You will have the opportunity to work in a specialized forensic-psychiatric ward with longer patient trajectories, close multidisciplinary collaboration and the possibility to develop strong competencies within psychiatry, medication management, milieu therapy, de-escalation and relational safety.
We have a stable staff group, clear structures and a strong collegial community where we help each other with a complex task
Salary and employment terms
Start date 01.12.2026 or after agreement.
Salary and employment terms follow the collective agreement for social and health care personnel entered into between FOA – Fag og Arbejde and Regionernes Lønnings- og Takstnævn with salary placement as social- and health care assistant.
The position can be organized as mixed day and evening shifts or as a position with primary evening shifts. Please indicate in your application what you prefer.
There is currently weekend duty every other weekend.
The 24-hour ward is staffed around the clock, and you will therefore be scheduled with mixed shifts in accordance with the rules of the applicable working time agreement/working time rules in the collective agreement.
We know that the balance between work and private life matters. Therefore we are working towards a new weekend model with the possibility of fewer working weekends — 9 working weekends instead of 12 over a 24-week period. It will also be possible to work every other weekend if you wish.
You are employed at Amager and Hvidovre Hospital, Psychiatric Center Sct. Hans.
Are you curious?
You do not need to be completely sure that forensic psychiatry is for you before you call.
In fact you may be curious, in doubt or just think: “It sounds exciting, but I am not completely sure forensic psychiatry is for me.”
Then we will take it from there.
You are very welcome to contact Chief Nurse Martin Corlin Christensen at phone 38 64 23 36 , if you want to hear more about the position, the duty schedule or the work at B1.
You are also welcome to come by for an informal coffee and a tour, so you can get a sense of the surroundings and daily life.
We look forward to receiving your application and CV via the link on the page.
