Social Pedagogue: Be part of making an important difference for people who are treated in forensic psychiatry

As a social pedagogue at the Psychiatric Center Sct. Hans, you are with us every day to make a difference for our patients, who are a completely unique target group: People who have both a mental illness and a legal sanction.

About Section D2

Section D2 is a closed forensic-psychiatric ward in Udsigten , which is Denmark's largest forensic psychiatry. We have space for 16 patients and work closely in interdisciplinary contact teams.

The patients have an average length of stay of 4-5 years, and the primary purpose of admission is to prevent new criminal activity. A large part of the care and treatment will therefore take as its starting point a rehabilitative approach, where we work recovery-oriented and with maximum patient involvement. This includes tools such as cognitive environmental therapy, as well as the Motivational Interviewing.

We need you who see development opportunities and potential in being part of a ward motivated by the complexity of forensic-psychiatric patient pathways, and who thrive with the rehabilitative and crime-prevention work with the patients.

Your tasks

Your professional reflections are important for the individual patient pathways. We need you who see value in close collaboration with both patients and their relatives, colleagues and managers.

As a social pedagogue on D2, your daily tasks will span a broad range. You will be part of the care staff, which means you are a contact person and co-responsible for selected patient pathways. You will become a contact person for about 2-4 patients.

The nursing includes among others

• Observation and documentation of symptoms
• Development of individual plans, including care and activities
• In the team, preparing the patient for the treatment plan meeting
• Support the patient in daily chores
• Support the patient in strategies to abstinence
• Support the patient in regulating arousal
• Focus on non-pharmacological measures when the patient’s condition worsens
• Help the patient increase knowledge of their own reaction patterns and work with the patient to use and try coping strategies.

The ward is led by the ward manager Ahmed Abdullah.

Our vision for the ward is that we want a community where it is safe to share professional reflections and disagreements, and where discussions contribute to new common perspectives and patient care at a high level. A cornerstone for us in our shared working environment is also physical safety. We place a high value on onboarding, supervision, as well as training in prevention and handling of conflicts.

We handle the forensic-psychiatric expert function in the Capital Region of Denmark and receive patients where the mental illness and the legal sanction are the background for complex patient pathways and require special expertise.

And good opportunities for ongoing competence development and further education within forensic psychiatry, recovery, cognitive-behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing and specialized training in psychiatric nursing.

And you will receive a common introduction and onboarding for the entire group. You will be introduced to forensic psychiatry, treatment strategy, our tools and much more. You will also be enrolled in the courses “Getting Started in Psychiatry” and conflict management.

We help and consult with each other. In addition to your team of skilled colleagues, the clinical nurse specialist and the assistant ward manager are ready to teach and ensure you receive solid onboarding in daily clinical practice. In addition, the on-call evening and night nurse ensures professional mentoring is available.

Who are we looking for?

• You are trained as a social pedagogue and focus on the individual’s resources and motivation.
• You see the opportunities in the interdisciplinary collaboration on complex patient pathways.
• You are good at communicating and show respect and presence toward patients, colleagues and partners.
• You have psychiatric experience, but it is not an absolute requirement.

Salary and terms of employment

You will be employed in mixed shifts, and there will be weekend work every other weekend.

You will be employed in accordance with the collective agreement for social-pedagogical staff at 24-hour institutions with salary grading as a social pedagogue. You are under employment covered by the current working hours agreement entered into between the Regions’ Salary and Tariff Board and the Danish Association of Social Pedagogues.

The 24-hour ward is staffed around the clock, and you will therefore be scheduled with mixed shifts in accordance with the rules in the current working hours agreement in the collective agreement.

Start date: December 1, 2026 or after individual agreement.
