About the job

At Atriumhaven we are seeking a social educator (socialpædagog), a social- and health care assistant or someone with solid experience in psychiatry, who wants to work closely with people with various psychiatric issues and care needs. With us, the job is about more than psychiatric problems and care. It is about understanding the person behind the behavior, creating security, and being calm and professional, even when situations become complex.

About the job.

As a staff member in the psychiatry department, you will be part of a multidisciplinary team that works with people with different psychiatric challenges and varying needs for care, support and assistance. The individual resident may have difficulty putting words to their needs, feelings and experiences, and communication and behavior can therefore be complex at times. It is therefore important that you meet the resident with curiosity and try to understand what lies behind what is being said or done.

An important part of the job is to be able to observe and reflect on residents’ statements and behavior and translate these observations into a professional understanding of what the resident is trying to communicate. In this way you can help create the right care, support and assistance based on the individual resident’s needs. The job requires both professional competence, empathy and patience, as well as the ability to maintain calm and overview in challenging situations.

Mental resilience and a respectful approach to the individual are therefore important competences in the work.

In the position you will, among other things, work with

  • Creating safe, stable and predictable environments where residents feel seen, heard and met
  • Providing care and support based on the individual resident’s needs and resources
  • Building and maintaining good relationships through an appreciative, respectful and pedagogical approach
  • Preventing and handling complex and challenging situations with calm, presence and professionalism
  • Using structure, sensory stimuli and person-centered methods as part of the daily effort
  • Documenting and transferring relevant observations
  • Collaborating multidisciplinary around residents’ well-being and development
  • Contributing to the development of professional practice in the department

You will have a varied daily life where days can be different, and where it is important that you can maintain an overview and meet the residents with calm, respect and presence – even when situations are challenging. We work as one Atriumhaven. This means you must be flexible and prepared to potentially work in one of our dementia wards as needed. Here it is important that you can see yourself as part of the overall Atriumhaven and actively contribute to the community.

For us, the goal is to lift the task together and be flexible with each other so that we create a safe and well-functioning everyday life for both residents and staff.

About us

Atriumhaven is a specialized care center for citizens with dementia and psychiatric issues. We are located in scenic surroundings in Brejning.

Here we work purposefully to create safe environments where residents can experience coherence, recognizability and dignity in their daily lives. Our residents have different needs and prerequisites. Some mainly need support due to dementia, while others have complex psychiatric issues and extensive care needs.

We are looking for you who

  • Are educated as a social educator or social- and health care assistant – or have solid and relevant experience in psychiatry
  • Are mentally robust and can keep calm in challenging situations
  • Are curious about what lies behind residents’ behavior and statements
  • Can translate observations into professional actions
  • Have an appreciative and respectful approach to residents and colleagues
  • Can work in a structured way and at the same time be flexible
  • Can work independently and at the same time be part of a strong community
  • Want to learn and develop professionally
  • Want to help develop our psychiatry ward and the professional practice
