About the job

Do you enjoy building new technical solutions with data, AI and automation? Can you translate complex problems into software – even when the right data or tools don’t exist yet? Then perhaps you are the one we are looking for.

JP/Politiken Editorial AI, Method & Research is a new joint specialist function designed to strengthen journalism through AI, data, OSINT and digital methods – and to develop new tools for the editorial desks.

The department supports Politiken, Jyllands-Posten, Ekstra Bladet, Business Media and Monitor Medier with specialized competencies and new methods that help the media lift their own journalism.

Your main tasks

You will become one of three employees in a completely new team. Your task will be to translate journalistic ideas into functioning technical solutions.

It could be a system that monitors thousands of public sources and detects interesting changes. A scraper that builds a dataset that did not exist before. A database that finds connections between companies and people. Or an AI tool that makes it possible to investigate hundreds of thousands of documents.

Sometimes you build a prototype in a few days to test an idea. Other times you develop a tool that will be used again and again across the editorial desks.

Your profile

You are technically strong, curious and good at finding solutions to problems you haven’t encountered before.

You are interested in data, automation and AI, but even more in what the technology can be used for. You thrive with tasks where the solution isn’t given in advance, and where you must find the best path from problem to working tool yourself.

We imagine you have experience with several, but not necessarily all, of the following areas:

  • Python, SQL and analysis of large datasets
  • Scraping, APIs and automated data collection
  • Monitoring websites, registers and other digital sources
  • Databases and linking information across different data sources
  • AI models and automated workflows
  • Document analysis, OCR and searching large amounts of material
  • Development of research tools, dashboards and smaller applications
  • Git, testing, deployment and documentation

You don’t need to be able to do everything. Maybe you are a software developer, data scientist, data engineer or come from a completely different technical environment. The most important is that you have a strong technical foundation, learn quickly and want to experiment with new technologies and methods.

Experience with OSINT, network analysis, graph databases, digital forensics or cybersecurity is an advantage, but not a requirement.

We offer

You get a rare opportunity to help build a new journalistic specialist function from the ground up – with great freedom to experiment, choose technologies and shape the tools and methods we develop.

One day you build a scraper, the next you analyze millions of data points, and the third you experiment with a new AI model because a journalist has had an idea that no one yet knows whether it can be done.

We will explore, build, test and learn. Some ideas become permanent tools. Others are discarded after two days. Both are part of the job.

You will have short decision-making paths and a great degree of technical freedom. And what you build may be what makes it possible to find a story that no one else has found.

Application

Submit a short application and your CV. We would also like to see something you have built. It could be a professional project, open source or something you did on a weekend because you were curious. We are more interested in what you got to work and how you thought than in how big the project was.

Further information

If you have questions, you are welcome to contact Jonas Gülstorff, head of Editorial AI, Method & Research at [email protected] or on telephone 60779962.

The position is initially funded until the end of 2027, when the project will be evaluated, with a possibility of extension.
