North Media has established a new area within system services and grid balancing. We develop intelligent energy solutions that connect and control customers' devices. This allows devices to contribute flexible capacity to the electricity system while simultaneously creating economic value for customers.

We are looking for a Software Engineer who will help develop and scale our platform. You will have a central role where you can shape both the product, the technical architecture and the way we work with software development.

Your new job

As a Software Engineer you contribute to the development and maintenance of our entire tech stack with particular focus on backend, hardware integrations and stable operation.

You will develop robust integrations that collect data from and control an increasing number of energy devices. The solutions must operate reliably with high uptime, because the platform is used for real-time control of devices that provide flexibility to the electricity system.

You will be part of a small development team, currently consisting of one full-time developer and a student developer. You will work closely with Customer Success, so experiences from daily customer operations can quickly be translated into technical improvements and new features.

AI-assisted development is an integrated part of our way of working. You are therefore expected to actively use tools such as Claude Code and Codex and help develop the way we use AI in software development.

Your main areas of responsibility

Platform and product development

• Develop and maintain our entire platform with particular focus on backend
• Develop new features that improve the customer experience and create value for customers
• Contribute to a scalable architecture that can support growth in both customers and connected devices
• Ensure quality through tests, code reviews and a structured approach to development

Hardware and system integrations

• Develop robust integrations for heat pumps, electric water heaters, electric radiators, batteries, inverters and other energy devices
• Collect data from and control devices with focus on stability, security and low response time
• Ensure high reliability and uptime in real-time control across a large number of devices
• Analyze and solve technical issues in close collaboration with development, operations and Customer Success

Technology and developer environment

• Develop primarily in TypeScript with a focus on quality, testing and stable operation
• Improve the developer environment by, among other things, developing and using simulated energy devices
• Work with event-driven architecture, NoSQL databases as well as build and deploy pipelines
• Actively apply AI tools in the development work and contribute to improving the team's AI-assisted workflows
• Contribute to knowledge sharing and development of good technical standards within the team

Who are you?

We imagine you have experience as a software developer with a particular focus on backend development. You can take responsibility for a solution from development and testing to deployment and stable operation. You have a relevant technical education in, for example, computer science, software development or similar, or have attained equivalent competencies through practical experience.

Additionally we would like you to

• Have experience with complex system integrations
• Have developed or maintained your own build and deploy pipelines
• Be familiar with NoSQL databases and event-driven architecture
• Work in a structured way with quality, testing and stable operation
• Have experience with AI-assisted development or have a strong interest in actively working with AI tools
• Can understand complex technical contexts and translate them into pragmatic solutions

It is an advantage if you have experience with

• TypeScript and AWS
• IoT integrations and MQTT
• Data collection with low latency
• Energy data, industrial control systems or other forms of real-time control

We are North Media's new area within system services and grid balancing. We develop and deliver platforms that collect electricity usage from, among others, heat pumps, electric water heaters and electric radiators and use the flexibility to balance the power grid. Our customers receive a portion of the revenue.

With a simple, Wi-Fi-connected BEAM device, customers can connect their equipment to the platform themselves. We aggregate the many small devices and offer their flexible consumption on the energy market via Energinet.
