We are looking for a

Software Engineer

, who will help develop the systems and platforms that make generative AI a stable and scalable part of our organization.

Our work with generative AI has two central applications

• AI platforms and APIs used by product teams across the group
• MAGNA, our internal AI toolkit for journalists
• You will help develop the technical platform that connects modern foundation models with journalistic workflows and digital products used by millions of users.

About the role

As a Software Engineer, you will work with the architecture behind our generative AI platform and the services that enable other teams to apply AI in their products.

The role sits at the intersection of machine learning, backend engineering and platform development. The position reports to the AI unit's Engineering Manager.

You will, among other things, work on

• Development of AI services and APIs for use across the organization
• Integration of LLMs and other foundation models into production systems
• Building systems for model routing, orchestration and fallback
• Solutions for latency optimization, caching and cost control
• Collaboration with product teams on integrating AI into digital products

An important part of the work is to make AI easy to use for other developers and product teams, while ensuring the platform is robust, efficient and secure.

Examples of technical challenges

In the role, you will work on problems such as

• How do you build an AI platform that can be used by many teams across an organization?
• How do you handle routing between different models depending on task, quality and cost?
• How do you reduce latency and costs in generative AI systems?
• How do you design robust AI workflows that can be integrated into editorial and product pipelines?
• How do you measure and monitor quality and operation in generative AI systems?

Your profile

We imagine you

• Have experience with backend development or platform development
• Have strong programming skills – typically in Python
• Have experience with API design and service-oriented architecture
• Have experience with cloud-based systems and distributed services
• Thrive in an environment where engineering, product development and domain expertise meet
