Specialist Doctor for the Emergency Department, Viborg Regional Hospital

A position as a consultant in emergency medicine at Hospital Unit Midt, the Emergency Department, Viborg Regional Hospital, is available for filling from 01.12.2026 or by agreement. The position is, as a rule, a full-time position at 37 hours per week.

About the position

In the Emergency Department we have an ambition to continue developing good, safe and efficient acute patient pathways 24/7/365 while keeping an eye on professional development and a good interdisciplinary working environment.

We are staffed to be 19 consultants; we are well on the way, but still lack a few consultant colleagues.

We have about 30-35 training doctors, and it is therefore expected that you are an active part of a well-established and good educational environment, where you supervise and act as main supervisor.

The emergency physician independently treats their own patients and supervises younger doctors. In addition, emergency physicians participate in the follow-up of hospitalized patients in the Emergency Department. If a patient's admission is expected to be less than a day, the aim is that the patients remain admitted in the department.

Consultants in the Emergency Department function either as team leaders or as supervisors for the team leader during the reception of the most critical patients (AMT call), who come directly to our emergency rooms. In addition, the trauma room is a fully integrated part of the Emergency Department.

Therefore, your on-call schedule is planned in close collaboration with our scheduling planner with strong focus on your personal preferences for the work plan — naturally within the framework of patient-safety operations in an emergency department.

We are looking for a colleague who

• Is a consultant in emergency medicine, who thrives in a close interdisciplinary and cross-sector collaboration, and who wishes to function as an emergency physician where we receive acute undetermined patients within all hospital specialties.
• Wants to become part of an interdisciplinary team around the acute patient. You must therefore have good collaboration skills, as you will have many points of contact both inside and outside the Emergency Department. There will also be opportunities to participate in organizational, quality and research projects.
• Will become part of a team of ambitious, hardworking and dedicated emergency physicians, where a good working environment is paramount. The physicians are a team that helps each other and provides professional sparring, also at night. We have a staffing level of 2 consultants at night together with 3 junior doctors. Our permanent emergency physicians come from different professional backgrounds, which enables knowledge sharing and mutual learning.

About the Emergency Department

The Emergency Department at Viborg Regional Hospital is a well-established department where interdisciplinary collaboration is highly functioning and where quality and education are strongly emphasized.

A very large part of the nursing staff has extensive emergency experience, and has completed the emergency training or the treatment training.

The department spans two floors with 44 beds, trauma room, hospital admissions, flow coordination, therapy ward, and the Emergency Secretariat. In total, the department has about 280 staff, who daily receive about 80 acute patients as well as 35 patients in the trauma room.

In the Emergency Department we receive acute patients within gynecology, organ surgery, orthopedic surgery, medicine, neurology as well as selected urological patients. The Cardiology department also takes in certain patient groups. The reception of the patients is handled by the Emergency Department's own doctors in collaboration with doctors from the respective specialties.

We have a very well-established collaboration with the primary sector and continually develop new initiatives. This includes, among other things, a project where the emergency physician collaborates virtually with the municipality's emergency team, the pre-hospital service and the GP regarding cross-sector hospital admission in the patient’s home.
