Do you want to use your chemical knowledge for something with real impact? With us you work on solutions that protect the water environment, support the green transition and create value for both nature and society.
Nearly everything that is built and developed affects the water environment in one way or another: urban development, industry, energy plants, climate adaptation and infrastructure.
In Sweco, working with the Water Framework Directive is an important part of developing the society of the future. That sets the framework for how society can develop without compromising the quality of our groundwater, rivers, lakes and coastal areas. Therefore it features heavily in advisory services and design.
For a chemical engineer, it means you come close to major societal projects and help ensure that technical solutions are environmentally sustainable as well. It’s not just about compliance — but about finding smarter solutions, reducing impacts and creating projects that can be approved, built and function long-term.
You will work on projects for private clients, utilities and public authorities – from municipalities to the Danish Road Directorate –, where management of rainwater and wastewater as well as impacts on the water environment is a central part of the project. The tasks range from drainage and climate adaptation projects to infrastructure and urban development projects, where there is a need for environmental assessments, discharge permits and documentation under the Water Framework Directive.
You will typically follow the projects from early investigations and authority processes to the final documentation and approval.
In addition to your colleagues in Industrial Environment, you will work closely with colleagues in Climate, Environment and Sustainability across the country. Therefore we are also flexible regarding your geographic placement.
About the job
You will become part of our professional environment in industrial environment and will work on projects where protection of the water environment is in focus. Much of the work involves assessing and documenting how discharges from wastewater and stormwater affect streams, lakes, coastal waters and groundwater – and ensuring that projects meet the requirements of the Water Framework Directive.
Your tasks will include
- Technical assessments under the Water Framework Directive
- Assessment of chemical and ecological status in recipients
- Calculations and assessments of priority harmful substances in relation to, among other things, environmental quality requirements
- Preparation of documentation for authority handling and approvals
- Discharge permits for rivers, lakes and coastal waters
- Recipient assessments and impact analyses
- Environmental impact reports
- Professional sparring in interdisciplinary projects within infrastructure, urban development and climate adaptation
- Dialogue with authorities, utilities and private clients
About you
We are seeking an experienced chemist or chemical engineer with strong expertise in water environment, industrial environment and environmental regulation. You have experience with assessments under the Water Framework Directive and thrive at the intersection of chemistry, regulatory requirements and complex construction and infrastructure projects.
You may come from a consulting engineering company, a utility or a authorities, but most important is that you have solid experience with environmental assessments and chemical issues related to water discharges.
We envision that you
- Have a minimum of 5 years of experience – preferably 10+ years
- Hold a degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, environmental engineering or equivalent
- Have experience with chemical quality elements, environmental priority substances and assessments of chemical and ecological status
- Be familiar with the intervention regulation, including §8 assessments
- Have experience with discharge permits and documentation of impacts on the water environment
- Thrive in dialogue with customers, authorities and cross-disciplinary project teams
