About the job

A position as a specialist doctor in Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine at Department North, OP East 3, Aarhus University Hospital, is available for occupation from February 1, 2027 or by agreement. The position is linked to the Department of Children, Youth and Women. We are seeking a professionally engaged specialist who wishes to contribute to treatment, development, research and education in both obstetric and pediatric anesthesia.

About AUH

Aarhus University Hospital handles main functions, regional functions and highly specialized functions for all specialties. Aarhus University Hospital puts the patient first and aims to provide the best treatment with respect for the individual. Research, education as well as treatment and care are integrated and conducted to high goals and quality requirements. Quality development includes all functions in all areas at Aarhus University Hospital.

About Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine North

The department is led by a chief nurse and a chief physician and consists of several wards, where daily management is handled by an assistant chief nurse and a senior physician: OP East 3 covers children, adolescents and pregnant women and has a corresponding Preparation/Recovery. There is collaboration between Obstetrics and Gynecology and all departments at AUH where there are children who require procedures or interventions with anesthesiologist assistance.

About OP East 3

OP East 3 is a highly specialized anesthesia department responsible for treating pregnant women, laboring women, children and adolescents. The Department of Children, Youth and Women has an operating suite with 6 operating rooms – two rooms dedicated to obstetrics and four rooms for pediatric surgery. There is an accompanying recovery department with 12 round-the-clock beds. The department serves one of the Region of Central Jutland’s largest maternity units with 12 delivery rooms and about 5,000 births annually.

We provide anesthetic care for pregnant women from across the region, including women with complex medical and obstetric problems. Annually, about 1,000 cesarean sections are performed, and about 1,600 labor epidurals are placed.

The department handles an extensive pediatric anesthesiology service with anesthesia for about 6,200 children annually across nearly all surgical specialties at Aarhus University Hospital, as well as for examinations and procedures outside the operating room. In addition, the department has daily 3-5 outbound teams that anesthetize children elsewhere at AUH (Radiology, Scanning, DCPT and other central operations).

The department is currently staffed with 18 specialists, and consists of an operating department and a recovery department. The wards are led by a senior physician and two assistant heads of nursing. We have a large educational mission with medical students, nursing students, residents, anesthesia nurse trainees, and the department is frequently visited from outside due to the highly specialized functions.

We are seeking a specialist colleague who is willing and enthusiastic to handle a wide range of anesthesiology procedures and the often professionally complex challenges associated with the aforementioned patient groups. A colleague who will participate in daily work, challenge and improve patient pathways. In short, we are looking for a professionally curious colleague who will help shape the Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine 3 at Aarhus University Hospital.

We are looking for the following competencies

  • Specialist in Anesthesiology
  • Desire and interest in working with pregnant women and with children and adolescents, and preferably experience with these patient groups
  • Professionally competent and with knowledge of team collaboration
  • Good collaboration and communication skills, proactive and with a good sense of humor
  • Interest in and possibly knowledge of participating in quality development and research projects.

Please indicate whether you have preferences for obstetric or pediatric anesthesia.

We can offer

  • An exceptionally good collaborative climate with good humor and room to grow.
  • Interdisciplinary teamwork at the forefront
  • Focus on high professional standards
  • Focus on continued development of good patient pathways.

The position is a full-time position with two types of shifts. On-site shifts from the ward at 17:30 - 08:00, and a on-call shift from home with 30 minutes call-out after finished daytime at 18:00. Daytime hours 07:30 - 15:15, with some days until 18:00. On weekends you can either have on-call coverage in a 24-hour shift or an on-site shift from 08:00 - 18:00 or 17:30 – 08:30. You are expected, as a rule, to participate in both shift teams.
