About the job
We are looking for a special educator for Krumtappen.
Do you want to help create a special school department where safety, relationships, development and learning go hand in hand?
About the position
Do you want to help build a completely new specialized holistic offering from the start?
At the Special School Department Krumtappen in Ballerup Municipality, we are opening a new holistic offering for six students aged 6–10 with autism spectrum disorder and low cognitive functioning and developmental level. The Special School Department Krumtappen is a sub-unit of the special school Ordblindeinstituttet. Therefore we are seeking a special educator who wishes to help create a safe, developing and meaningful daily life for our students.
As a special educator at the Special School Department Krumtappen you will become part of a small, close professional community, where relationships, structure and presence are the central elements in daily life. You will have the opportunity to help shape both practice, culture and pedagogical direction in a provision that is under development.
We want to create a school day where the students meet with clarity, care and high academic ambitions, tailored to each child’s prerequisites and needs.
Our pedagogical approach
At the Special School Department Krumtappen we believe that children develop best in safe relationships and in environments where adults create calm, predictability and clear boundaries.
We work with inspiration from neuroaffective developmental psychology and focus on meeting the students where they are – emotionally, relationally and developmentally. This means that we adapt our pedagogical approach to each child and work with small developmental steps that make sense for the student.
Daily life is characterized by predictability, structure and close adult support. At the same time we prioritize sensory, bodily and playful activities, because many of our students learn and develop best through concrete experiences and participation in safe communities.
A close school–home collaboration is an important part of our work, and we emphasize open dialogue and shared direction regarding the child’s well-being and development.
Your tasks
As a special educator you will be an important adult in the students’ daily life. You will help create a structured and safe everyday life, where students have the opportunity to develop at their own pace.
Your tasks will include, among others, to
- Plan and implement special pedagogical interventions
- Support students’ participation in social communities
- Create calm, manageability and clear transitions in daily life
- Work with visualization, guidance and matched adult support
- Prepare student descriptions and contribute to action plans
- Collaborate closely with colleagues, parents and multidisciplinary partners.
Since the offering is new, you will also have the opportunity to influence the structures and routines that will form the framework for the Special School Department Krumtappen going forward.
Who we are looking for
We are looking for trained educators with an interest in the field of special education and a desire to work with children with autism and complex developmental needs.
It is advantageous if you have experience in the field, but the most important is that you are curious, relationship-oriented and motivated to engage in a professional community with high reflection and close collaboration.
We imagine that you
- Work calmly and clearly
- Can create structure and predictability
- Have a focus on both wellbeing and development
- Meet children with patience, warmth and professional curiosity
- Thrive in an environment where people help each other and develop practice together.
Professional development and support
At Krumtappen we prioritize professional development highly.
You will receive ongoing supervision as well as opportunities for courses and competency development in areas including autism, special education and neuroaffective developmental psychology.
We aim to build a workplace with strong professionalism, shared reflection and a culture where sparring and knowledge sharing are a natural part of daily life.
What you get with us
With us you become part of a new special school department with the opportunity to shape it from the start.
We emphasize
- A close and supportive collegial community
- High professionalism and shared reflection
- Time for preparation and collaboration
- A daily life with clear boundaries and a common direction
- Management close to practice.
You will be part of an offering where independence and professional responsibility are highly valued. Although the manager is not always physically present in daily life, there will be ongoing opportunities for sparring, support and close collaboration.
We know that the work requires professionalism, flexibility and humor – and we prioritize a working environment where you are not left alone with the task.
Working hours are 08:00 – 16:00; in addition, occasional evening meetings may occur.
The Special School Department Krumtappen is a subdivision of the special school Ordblindeinstituttet.
