State Prosecutor for the Prosecution Service

The position of State Attorney General is vacant for filling.

The Ministry of Justice is seeking a State Attorney General who, with great commitment and high proficiency, shall lead the prosecuting authority.

The prosecuting authority is part of the Ministry of Justice's group and performs a central societal task: to prosecute criminal offenses and contribute to Denmark being safe and secure and one of the world's leading legal systems. The prosecuting authority works to ensure legal certainty and fair treatment of criminal cases, and the core task is to prosecute criminal offenses, ensure that the guilty are held responsible, that the innocent are not prosecuted, and that all cases are processed impartially and objectively.

The Prosecution Authority has about 1,700 employees, distributed across the central prosecuting authority (the State Prosecution Offices and the National State Prosecutor’s Office) and the local prosecuting authorities in the police districts.

About the position

The State Attorney General, as the highest public prosecutor, has professional responsibility for the prosecuting authority's activities nationwide, is the top administrative leader of the prosecuting authority and is subject to the supervision of the Minister of Justice. The State Attorney General oversees the state prosecutors and carries out criminal cases at the Supreme Court and operates at The Special Court.

As head of the prosecuting authority, the State Attorney General has a central task in working to optimize the criminal procedure chain across the police, the prosecuting authority, the courts and Denmark's Prisons. The State Attorney General leads the prosecuting authority's work to strengthen the quality and efficiency of criminal case handling and represents the prosecuting authority inwardly and outwardly.

The State Attorney General also participates in the overall group management for the police and the prosecuting authority as well as in the Ministry of Justice's top management.

About you

The State Attorney General must be a highly qualified jurist (cand.jur.) with thorough knowledge of criminal law and criminal procedure and with insight into and understanding of the prosecuting authority's area of work.

In addition, solid leadership experience is valued – preferably from a politically governed organization, strong ability to communicate internally and externally, strategic vision, natural collaboration skills and deep organizational understanding.

Salary and employment terms

The State Attorney General is employed as a civil servant for a term of ten years with no possibility of extension or re-employment.

The position is placed in pay grade 41, where the annual salary currently amounts to 1,045,791 DKK. To the position is attached a top executive allowance of 229,813 DKK annually at current level. In addition, there will be negotiations on a personal allowance and a tenure allowance.

It is a prerequisite for employment that you can obtain security clearance.
