About the job

Juliane Marie Centre

Do you want to develop your competences within specialized surgical nursing care for children and adolescents?

In the department for admitted children and adolescents with surgical diseases in the gastrointestinal and urinary tracts (BUKIR 4053) we are seeking a nurse for a permanent position of 32 or 37 hours per week from 1 January 2027. The position involves rotating shifts and working every 3rd weekend in a fixed cycle.

With us you will become part of a highly specialized pediatric surgical ward, where nursing ranges from short postoperative courses to complex and long-term patient trajectories. What all patient pathways have in common is that the child and the family are at the center, and that nursing is based on high professional quality, close observation and a strong focus on safety and involvement.

About the department

BUKIR 4053 provides care and treatment for children and adolescents aged 0-16 years with surgical diseases and congenital malformations in the gastrointestinal system, liver, kidneys, urinary tract and genital organs.

We receive both acute and elective patients and have 24-hour staffed emergency admission within our specialty.

The department includes both a ward and outpatient functions, which provides varied clinical work and the possibility to follow patients through different parts of their course.

The nursing role with us

Pediatric surgical nursing is complex, relational and technically specialized. Your tasks will include, among other things:

  • pre- and postoperative nursing
  • observation and care of children in specialized surgical pathways
  • pain assessment and pain management
  • administration of medications and fluid therapy
  • care of intravenous accesses, catheters and postoperative wounds
  • education and guidance of children, young people and parents, including stomal care and parenteral nutrition
  • support to families in both short and longer inpatient pathways

The work requires clinical overview, technical skills and the ability to create a sense of security for children and their relatives in often vulnerable situations.

Interdisciplinary collaboration

We work closely with pediatric surgeons, anaesthesia staff, educators, dietitians, social workers and other collaborators around each child’s pathway.

The interdisciplinary collaboration is a prerequisite for the care and nursing we strive to offer our patients and families.

Professional development and introduction

We prioritize thorough onboarding and competence development.

You will receive an individually tailored introductory program of about three months with a fixed mentor. During the introduction period you are not included in the normal staffing, so there is time for learning, reflection and sparring.

We work purposefully with professional development through teaching, reflection on practice and ongoing competence development.

Who are you?

We imagine that you

  • are a licensed registered nurse
  • have an interest in pediatric nursing and surgical patient pathways
  • can work independently and at the same time seek sparring when the situation calls for it
  • contribute positively to the community and interdisciplinary collaboration
  • are curious about developing new competences

Experience from pediatrics or surgery is an advantage, but not a prerequisite.

What do we offer?

We are around 30 nurses with diverse experiences and competences. We value a good working environment, professional sparring and helpfulness highly, and we have a culture where we take responsibility for both patient pathways and each other’s well-being.

With us you have the opportunity to develop within a highly specialized area and at the same time become part of a collegial community with room for professionalism and humor.
