About the job
Would you like to use your nursing expertise in a framework where you work clinically broadly, interdisciplinarily and with a clear societal impact? We are seeking a nurse for the Health Unit in Jyderup Prison (and the surrounding sites in Nykøbing, Kalundborg, Holbæk and Slagelse) as part of a staffing increase. The augmentation occurs in connection with increased focus on health and interventions for vulnerable detainees in light of the new penal reform.
The position is initially 37 hours per week and is desired to be filled on December 1 (or by agreement).
About the workplace
You will be employed by Denmark’s Prisons, Prison Sector East (East Sector Office), but your main workplace will be the health clinic in Jyderup Prison. The position also entails that during holidays and illness you will perform nursing duties at other sites in Holbæk, Slagelse, Kalundborg, Roskilde and Nykøbing Prison.
Jyderup Prison is a women’s prison.
The prison has 143 places, of which 58 are remand places, 45 are open places, and 40 are closed places. The prison generally receives women from across the country.
You will be responsible for the daily health care of the prison’s inmates. The tasks can best be likened to the workflow in general practice, in that patients present to the nurse with issues they would otherwise have taken to their own doctor.
The tasks include, among others
- Medication management
- Counselling/health talks
- Chronic disease programs
- Substance abuse treatment (substitution)
- Intake interviews
- Assist at medical consultations
- Take blood samples and ECG as well as lung function tests when needed.
- Nurse consultations
- Referral to medical consultations.
In the staffing increase there is also a strengthening of the professional effort for vulnerable detainees – e.g., through early detection, continuity, stable medication, focus on patient safety and close interprofessional collaboration. Health works from a rehabilitative approach, where we support the detainee’s self-care, coping and health competences. This can include targeted guidance, motivational conversations and support to navigate treatment and appointments – also with a view to better sector transitions upon release.
Who are you?
You are a trained nurse and have a few years of practical experience – preferably from general practice, emergency department/accident and emergency or general practice. Psychiatry and substance abuse experience can be an advantage in the job, but is by no means a requirement.
It is crucial that you work in a highly structured way, that you are focused on ensuring efficient daily workflows, and that you prioritize patient safety. A mature approach to collaboration internally and across disciplines is also a prerequisite.
You are good at ensuring correct and timely documentation in journals and understand the importance of rigor and patient-safe work. You have strong pedagogical abilities and can communicate confidently and clearly for guidance – both to patients and staff.
You are willing to invest to create a good working environment with job satisfaction, well-being and good collaborative relationships with your colleagues.
Experience from e.g. psychiatry, acute/medical, substance abuse treatment, home care or social medical services is an advantage – but not a requirement.
We offer
- A unique and societally important job with high professional relevance
- Varied nursing tasks and good opportunities for competence development
- A strong interdisciplinary environment and a collegial community
- A weekend-free position with minimal work on public holidays
- An employer that prioritizes professionalism, cooperation and integrity.
Salary and terms of employment
The position is a permanent position with an average weekly working time of 37 hours and is to be filled as soon as possible.
Employment and remuneration are done in accordance with the applicable common agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Teachers and CO10, as well as the state nurses’ union collective agreement. Link to the agreement: Circular on the organizational agreement for state nurses and the agreement on the new pay system for civil servants and civil servant-like employees who are nurses in the state | Rules, agreements and circulars
Working hours and shift plan
The working hours are Monday to Friday from 7:30 to 17 – there is an ongoing effort to extend the presence of nurses to until 20:00, so that evening hours may be expected over time.
You have weekends off and, as a rule, public holidays off. There may be some overlap of holidays that means we may have to open on a holiday on one occasion – this is more of an exception than the rule. In holidays and during sickness, courses and the like, staff are predominantly self-covering with the understanding that the health unit’s nurses cover for each other.
