About the job

Can you spot learning, even when the path to it isn’t straight? Can you create calm, structure and relationships – and at the same time hold on to the fact that our students must be academically challenged? And are you eager to bring your Danish or mathematics expertise into play as a mentor? Then you might be the one we are looking for!

At Special School Lolland we are looking for a teacher who wants to be part of a school where academic work and special pedagogy go hand in hand, and where we are curious every day about what it takes for each individual pupil to succeed.

We are particularly looking for you who is already a maths advisor, a reading advisor – or who wants to become one. If you have the right academic curiosity and motivation, we want to invest in your development.

With us a good school day can look like many things

Sometimes it is the pupil who suddenly cracks the reading code. Other times it is the pupil who for the first time stays in the lesson for the entire hour.

It can be a pupil who dares to raise their hand, succeeds with a mathematics task, finds their way back to the group after a difficult morning – or discovers: “This actually is something I can do.”

These are the moments we work for.

Our pupils have different prerequisites for participating in school life. Therefore, working with us requires both professionalism, patience, creativity, humor and the ability to maintain calm when the day doesn’t go exactly as planned.

We fundamentally believe: “Children do well when they can.”

That means we are curious about what lies behind the pupil’s actions. We work with Low Arousal and neuro-pedagogical and neuropsychological perspectives, and we adapt frameworks, demands and learning environments so that the pupils get the best possible conditions to succeed.

But special pedagogy does not mean low expectations. We have ambitions on behalf of our pupils.

We teach in the subjects of the Danish and Swedish national curriculum for primary school, and we want to strengthen our professional environment further. Therefore we also seek you who would like to help develop our practices in Danish or mathematics.

Perhaps you are our new colleague if you

  • Can see the person before the behavior.
  • Become academically curious when a pupil does not learn in the way you first imagined.
  • Can create clarity and structure without becoming rigid.
  • Know that the relationship is crucial – but also that a good relationship must lead to participation, development and learning.
  • Want to collaborate closely with teachers, pedagogues and other professional groups and dare to be curious about both your own and others’ practices.
  • Can laugh with your colleagues and at the same time stand firm when the task requires it.

And perhaps you already have a mentor qualification as a maths advisor or reading advisor. If not, you may want to take it. For us, the most important thing is that you have the academic interest and the desire to help lift not only your own pupils but also the shared professional practice at the school.

You don’t need to know everything beforehand

If you are a skilled teacher but new to the special education field, we would also like to hear from you.

Special pedagogical experience is an advantage – but curiosity, reflection and the desire to learn are at least as important.

With us you are not left alone with the task. You will become part of an interdisciplinary community where we spar with one another, work closely on the pupils and use each other’s different areas of expertise.

We offer, among other things, professional sparring and supervision, close collaboration with PPR, opportunities for competence development and, not least, the opportunity to have influence on the development of our professional environment.

We are a school in motion

Special School Lolland is in the midst of an exciting development.

From January 2027 the school will be located on two campuses in Maribo and Nakskov. We are building new professional and collegial communities and working on how to create the best learning environments for our pupils.

That means you will join at a time when much is in motion – and where there is also real possibility to have influence.

We do not have all the answers in advance.

Nevertheless, we have ambitions, academic curiosity and a strong desire to jointly create a special school where pupils feel that they belong, can learn and can succeed.

Who are our pupils?

Special School Lolland is a municipal special education service under the Public School Act for children and young people aged 6–16 years.

Our pupils have different special pedagogical needs, and the teaching takes its starting point in each pupil’s prerequisites, resources and potential.

We see learning, well-being and development as closely linked.

Our ambition is not only that the pupils get through their schooling well. We want them to develop academic, personal and social competencies that make them as independent as possible and give them belief in their own abilities and possibilities.
