Teacher/educator for autism class in the Full-day Department at Sanderum School
- Do you want to help make a difference for children with autism through strong relationships, clear structure, and high professional standards?
At Sanderum School we are seeking a dedicated and special education–interested teacher/educator for our autism class for school starters in the Full-day Department.
The Full-day Department is a special educational school offer for children with general and specific learning difficulties, socio-emotional challenges and autism. The department receives pupils from across Odense Municipality and consists of engaged teachers, pedagogues and educational staff who every day work to create the best learning and development opportunities for our students.
We believe that all children do their best, and we meet the students with curiosity, respect and high expectations for their development. This approach is the foundation of our work in the Full-day Department.
You will become part of a cross-professional team around an autism class in the lower school, where teachers and pedagogues work closely together to create meaningful learning communities and a safe school everyday life.
The students need adults who can create an overview and predictability, and who are at the same time curious about each individual student’s way of understanding, communicating and being in the world.
Your responsibilities
As a teacher/pedagogue in the autism class you will play a central role in developing and supporting students’ academic, social and personal development.
You will among other things
- Plan, implement and evaluate teaching/pedagogical activities based on the individual learning prerequisites of the students.
- Create clear, calm and predictable learning environments with a high degree of structure.
- Use visual support systems such as pictograms, daily and weekly schedules, work plans, social stories and other supportive tools.
- Work systematically with alternative and augmentative communication (AAC) and support the students’ communicative development.
- Adapt your language to the students’ comprehension level through short, concrete and visually supported messages.
- Work with the students’ social understanding, self-regulation, emotional development and participation opportunities in communities.
- Support students’ well-being through an appreciative, mentalizing and low-arousal inspired approach.
- Contribute to the development of goals, evaluations and action plans in collaboration with parents and cross-disciplinary partners.
- Actively participate in collaboration with the department’s pedagogues, teachers, psychologists, speech and hearing specialists and other partners.
We are looking for a teacher/pedagogue who
- Is educated as a teacher or pedagogue
- Has experience with or interest in the autism field.
- Has knowledge of or a desire to learn more about autism, communication and special pedagogy.
- Has experience with or an interest in the use of pictograms, visual support systems and augmentative communication.
- Can create clear boundaries while meeting the children with warmth, humor and acknowledgment.
- Is strong in relationship work and sees collaboration with students, parents and colleagues as a natural part of the task.
- Is reflective and curious about one’s own practice.
- Actively contributes to the community and the cross-professional collaboration.
We offer
- A professionally strong special education environment with a high level of sparring and collaboration.
- Dedicated colleagues who are passionate about creating development and well-being for children with special needs.
- Opportunity for professional development in autism, communication and special pedagogy.
- A daily life characterized by humor, engagement and shared ambitions on behalf of the students.
- A workplace where cross-professional collaboration is a natural part of everyday life
