About the job

Do you want to make a real difference for children and young people with autism?

At Horisonten Special School we are looking for two engaged teachers who will help create strong learning communities, development and life skills for students with autism spectrum disorders.

The Vejby Department is growing, and after the start of three new classes we are now seeking two new colleagues who are passionate about teaching, relationships and special pedagogy.

We are especially looking for a teacher for the upper grades with an interest in or experience within autism pedagogy. Academically, we would like you to have competences in mathematics and English, but other subject combinations can also be relevant.

With us you will become part of an ambitious academic environment where we every day work purposefully so that our students experience success, gain belief in their own abilities and have the best possible prerequisites for an independent and meaningful life.

You may be newly qualified or experienced. The most important is that you meet the children with professional curiosity, high ambitions and strong commitment.

About Horisonten

At Horisonten we have a clear ambition: We want to be among the country’s leading special schools in autism pedagogy.

We believe that high professionalism, strong relationships and clear frameworks create the best conditions for learning, well-being and development. Therefore we invest targeted in competence development, professional sparring and close leadership support.

With us you get

  • A academically strong environment with a clear pedagogical direction
  • Ongoing competence development within special and autism pedagogy
  • Experienced mentors close to practice
  • Accessible and engaged leadership
  • A strong team collaboration where we plan, implement and evaluate the teaching together

We work with an extended teaching concept and activity-based learning, where nature, creativity, movement and practically oriented activities are an integrated part of the students’ school day. At the same time, we are privileged by our scenic location close to both forest and beach, which are actively used in the teaching.

Your everyday life with us

You will become part of a fixed, cross-disciplinary team consisting of teachers, pedagogues and in some teams also teaching assistants, who together create a safe, developing and meaningful school day for the students.

We work in small classes with 8-10 students, which allows for building strong relationships and planning teaching based on each student’s resources, needs and developmental opportunities.

In our environment collaboration is a strength. We plan, implement and evaluate the teaching together, and we help each other find the solutions that create the best conditions for the students’ well-being, learning and participation in the community.

We are looking for a colleague who

  • Is a trained teacher
  • Has teaching competence in Danish or mathematics and preferably also language or science subjects
  • Has interest in or experience with autism pedagogy and special educational learning environments
  • Can plan and implement differentiated teaching with a view to each student’s development
  • Sees opportunities rather than limitations and thrives in a daily life where flexibility and creativity are important competencies
  • Understands that learning can take many forms, and is motivated to include nature, movement, creative activities, music and practical learning forms in the teaching
  • Meets the students with clarity, patience, humor and high expectations
  • Can remain calm and see behind behavior when students are challenged
  • Creates safe and trusting relationships with both students, parents and colleagues
  • Believes that all children do their best, given their prerequisites
