Team Lead for Software Development at dao

About the job

dao is in the process of a comprehensive modernization of its IT landscape. At the same time the existing PHP platform continues to play a central role in daily operations and supports business-critical processes with high requirements for stability and uptime.

One of your main tasks will be to raise the quality and stability of the existing platform and make it as well prepared as possible for an expected migration to dao's new Java platform within the next 3-5 years.

For you, code quality, testing and maintainability are not nice-to-have – they are the foundation for good software development.

Your tasks

As Team Lead you will have a combination of technical responsibility and people management. You will, among other things, be:

• be a hands-on PHP developer and technical sparring partner for the team
• set the direction for code quality, code reviews, tests and refactoring
• identify and prioritise technical debt and stabilization initiatives
• ensure a stable and maintainable platform with high uptime
• develop and spar with the team's software developers
• create structure and documentation towards the long-term migration
• work closely with the Java team, architects and DevOps

About you

You are firstly a capable and experienced PHP developer who still wants to stay close to the technical side. At the same time you are motivated by taking responsibility for a team and lifting the overall technical level.

• have solid experience with PHP and development of larger, business-critical solutions
• have strong competencies in clean code, testing, refactoring and code reviews
• have experience working in larger existing codebases and reducing technical debt
• have understanding of architecture, integrations, databases and APIs
• naturally share your knowledge and challenge other developers professionally
• are interested in people leadership and in developing and motivating a team

You do not need to come from a leadership role. The decisive factor is your technical heft and the ability to lead. You thrive in the role of a playing coach, where you can take the technical discussions, dive into the code and at the same time create direction for the team.
