About the job
Do you want to take responsibility for feasibility studies of large infrastructure projects and contribute to the green transition? And can you maintain an overview in a day-to-day where progress in complex projects, stakeholder management and the motivation of employees must come together in a higher unity? - then you should take a closer look here.
Banedanmark is one of the government’s largest agencies, which each day ensures that Denmark's railways are developed, operated and maintained.
At the headquarters at Dybbølsbro in Copenhagen you will find the Construction Development section. Here we work on translating ideas and mandates into concrete projects and decision briefs. Our work provides the basis for Banedanmark’s management and politicians to make decisions about the development of the railway of the future.
You will become part of a management team consisting of a section head and in total three team leaders distributed across three project teams, all working closely together to solve the section's tasks. Each team consists of between 7 and 10 employees.
“In our management team it’s important that we get along well and take an interest in one another, and we spend time on sparring in everyday work. We solve a common task, and everyone contributes with good solutions, just as we support each other across teams." - Section Chief Dina Juell-Sundbye.
Responsibilities at the intersection of leadership, project management and political support
As a team leader you will be responsible for both the team's deliverables and the employees' professional development and well-being. You are motivated by creating results through others and at the same time being close to the technical expertise, so you ensure that the projects are delivered on time, with high quality and within the financial framework.
You will have a central role in a complex network, where the team's results depend on good relationships with both internal and external partners. You must therefore be able to build trusting relationships and navigate stakeholder management across organisations.
In daily work you are responsible for creating structure, overview and progress – even when tasks are many and complex. Your tasks will include, among other things, to:
- contribute to the team's development with emphasis on professional learning, well-being and good deliverables
- plan and prioritise the team's tasks and ensure progress, quality and coherence in the deliverables
- provide professional sparring and be close to the technical expertise in the projects
- ensure solid decision bases for both Banedanmark's Project Forum and the political level
- coordinate and build good relationships with internal and external partners
- manage stakeholders and various considerations across organisations and authorities.
The projects in the team range from renewing the existing railway, where the decision basis is delivered to Banedanmark's Project Forum, to new construction, where the decision basis is presented at the political level.
You will therefore work in a context where progress and results are closely followed by the management, the ministry, municipalities and interest organisations. It requires that you have a solid overview, can set the framework for the right decisions and maintain focus on achieving the goals within the agreed limits. At the same time you will have a role where you can make a tangible difference for people, projects and the development of the Danish railway.
Team leader who can ensure hands-on leadership and cross-organisational collaboration
We envisage that you have experience in leading staff and delivering projects and thrive on creating results through others. It is an advantage if you have technical understanding, since the role requires you to comprehend the professional issues your employees encounter in everyday work. You have a relevant educational background – e.g. as an engineer, social scientist, or with a background from the political area.
You are motivated by understanding the complexity of the projects and ask curious and qualified questions. You take responsibility for the deliverables and know that insight and overview are decisive to create results.
As a leader you can navigate in all directions – upwards, downwards and across. You create forward progress through clear prioritization, ongoing follow-up and structured work methods, e.g. board-style management. At the same time you place emphasis on close dialogue with project managers, your team leader colleagues and the management, so challenges are dealt with in a timely manner and there is a common focus on the task.
As a person you are naturally curious and empathetic. You take an interest in your employees and colleagues and prioritise being a visible and accessible leader. You have an eye for the individual and how you create the conditions that support both well-being, professional development and strong results.
Your new department is filled with great colleagues and exciting projects
Across the Business Area Project Development we all contribute to delivering solid decision bases for our projects. We focus on well-being and skills development, and it is important to us that everyone wants to contribute to daily well-being and help raise the professional level. In addition to the professional, we focus on ensuring a good working environment where we have each other's backs, prioritise time for important conversations and have an easy sense of humor and smiles.
We place emphasis on good leadership. To ensure the ongoing development of leadership skills in Banedanmark, we run continuous development programs, where you will meet leaders from other areas. There is here an opportunity to network and exchange experiences and to ensure a good sense of community around good leadership practices.
Banedanmark can also offer a fitness room, good canteen facilities, the possibility to work from home in periods where the tasks allow it.
Our office is 2 minutes from Dybbølsbro station. If you prefer to drive or cycle to work instead, there are also good opportunities to park in dry weather.
