About the job

Team Leader for Vehicle Testing Teams & Roadside Inspections – join us in developing the future of oversight

Do you want to lead a strong professional team that makes a daily difference for road safety? Are you keen to further develop an authorities area where efficient operations, risk-based supervision and digitization go hand in hand? And are you motivated by setting direction, developing skilled staff and leading both remotely and up close to daily tasks?

Then you may be our new team leader in the Team for Vehicle Testing and Roadside Inspection.

As team leader you will play a central role in ensuring both the daily operations and the continued strategic development of the team’s tasks. You will be responsible for a strong professional team that contributes to vehicle inspection companies and training centers meeting the applicable rules and standards, and that Denmark fulfills its obligations within roadside inspection.

Our ambition is to develop an increasingly efficient, targeted and socially beneficial supervision. We must use our resources where they create the greatest value for road safety and competitiveness. This means we must be especially attentive to the companies and vehicles where the risk of non-compliance is greatest.

At the same time, companies that handle their affairs properly should experience a professional authority where contact and supervision are conducted quickly, efficiently and with as few administrative burdens as possible. This is a strategic direction we are already working towards, and you will play a key role in continuing and developing it together with the staff.

About the team

The Team for Vehicle Testing and Roadside Inspection has a broad task portfolio of significant importance for road safety. The team’s tasks include, among others:

  • Supervision of vehicle inspection companies.
  • Carrying out nearly 6,000 roadside inspections of commercial vehicles annually.
  • Development of a vehicle inspection scheme in Greenland and contribution to its subsequent operation.
  • Approval of and supervision of providers of education within the inspection field.
  • Roadside inspection of motorcycles.
  • Administrative authority tasks related to practical supervision.
  • Contributing to the development and interpretation of rules in the area.

The team consists of 19 dedicated and professionally strong employees, all of whom are vehicle inspection inspectors. The employees work from their home addresses and are geographically distributed across Denmark with one employee in Greenland.

This places special demands on you as a leader. You must be able to create direction, coherence and community across geographical distances. At the same time, we expect you to prioritize getting close to the employees’ everyday work and tasks, so you have a solid professional basis for your leadership decisions.

As team leader you will be part of the management team in the Safe Driving department, where you work closely with the department’s two other team leaders and the office manager. You will also play an important role in cross-agency collaboration within the Danish Road Traffic Authority, both professionally and strategically.

Your most important task is to ensure operations and continue strategic development

You take over the leadership of a well-functioning team with a comprehensive operational task and a clear strategic direction. Your job is to ensure stable high-quality operations and to continue and strengthen the development that has already been initiated.

We constantly want to become better at our tasks and create the greatest possible value with the resources available to us.

A central element of our strategy is to optimize our risk-based and differentiated supervision. We must in even higher degree target our efforts at the areas and actors where there is the greatest risk of non-compliance with the rules. Here we must be thorough, consistent and ensure that we cover all relevant issues. Conversely, we must design our efforts so that companies that comply with the rules experience an efficient and professional authority that imposes no unnecessary burdens.

This requires us to continuously develop our workflows, become better at using data and leveraging the opportunities in digitization.

The digital transformation will therefore be an important tool in the team’s continued development. As team leader you must be able to see opportunities in new digital solutions, prioritize development efforts and ensure that changes are anchored in daily operations. You must therefore be able to take the managerial responsibility to identify new technological possibilities, develop them and implement them in practice.

You must be able to translate the strategic direction into concrete improvements that make sense for the employees, strengthen the quality of our regulatory work and create value for both society and the companies we supervise.

We therefore emphasize that you have an understanding of change management, can build commitment and are keen to drive development in close collaboration with the team’s employees.

Your leadership tasks

As team leader you are the driving force in the team’s everyday life. You are engaged and set the direction, create engagement and ensure that strategic ambitions are translated into concrete results. You lead with a basis in the Road Traffic Authority’s values and manage to combine a clear leadership direction with trust, involvement and respect for employees’ professionalism.

You must be close to operations while also looking to the longer term. This means, among other things, that you must be able to prioritize between daily operational tasks and development activities and ensure that employees have the right framework to succeed with both. To ensure close leadership and the possibility to work with both operations and development, you should expect to be out with employees in their practice and at the Ribe office.

Since the employees work across the country, it is important that you master remote leadership without losing closeness to the employees and their tasks. You must be curious about the practical task solving, eager to go out where the work is performed, and work with the employees on quality and development of the tasks.

You also play an important role in ensuring strong collaboration with the Authority’s other specialties. The team has particularly close collaborative relationships with the teams dealing with rules for vehicle approval and the rules in the inspection area. It is essential that you contribute to a strong connection between these areas and your own team so that rule development, professional knowledge and practical enforcement support each other.

Who are you?

We are seeking a leader who can both ensure efficient operations and have ambitions to develop the team’s tasks, processes and staff.

You must be keen and able to understand the tasks and the reality in which the employees and the companies we supervise operate. It will therefore be a clear advantage if you have industry knowledge and experience in the inspection area, the vehicle industry or related fields. This will give you a good starting point for quickly understanding the team’s tasks, engaging in professional dialogue and contributing to continued strategic development.

We also place emphasis on that you

  • Have experience with or a solid understanding of operations management and can create structure and prioritize in a complex daily life.
  • Have strategic understanding and the ability to translate goals and ambitions into concrete improvements and results.
  • Have an eye for opportunities in digitization, data-driven prioritization and efficiency.
  • Understand change management and can engage employees in developing tasks and workflows.
  • Thrive in remote leadership and at the same time prioritize being close to employees’ daily work.
  • Build trust through open dialogue, clear expectations and involvement.
  • Focus on employees’ well-being, professional development and a strong sense of community.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing.
  • Have strong collaboration skills and can build good relationships across disciplines and organizational boundaries.
  • Have the desire and ability to be in close dialogue with the industry and our other external stakeholders.
  • Keep calm and maintain an overview, even when pace is high.
  • Contribute with good humor and a positive approach to collaboration.
  • Hold a driver’s license for a passenger car.

You also have political acumen and preferably experience from a politically led organization. You understand the importance of us as an authority working professionally and credibly in interaction with both internal and external stakeholders. This includes collaboration with the ministry, industry organizations, vehicle inspection companies, haulers and drivers.

We would also like you to have a natural interest in the industry and be curious about its development and challenges. You must be able to combine an understanding of the industry’s conditions with the independence and authority role that is essential to our work.
