Sign language contact person for a woman who is deaf and blind – Lystrup, Aarhus

On behalf of Aarhus Municipality CFD Advisory seeks a contact person for a lively and engaged sign language-using elderly woman who lives in Lystrup near Aarhus.

The woman is completely deaf and blind and uses tactile sign language. She is active and participates in activities and meetings around the country.

There is hourly paid work 10-15 hours per week. In addition, there may be a need for accompaniment to various events, courses and activities. If you are on a flex job, retired, on pension or want a job where you make a big difference for a citizen, then hurry to apply for the job.

The tasks are to

• accompany the woman during shopping and out to activities, e.g. crafts
• accompany the woman to meetings and courses
• accompany on excursions
• describe visually for the woman what you see around you, e.g. on the computer and the Internet
• facilitate contact and act as liaison between the woman and other people
• describe to the woman what you see in the surroundings and locate items.

We expect that you

• can sign at a comprehensible level (regardless of whether you are deaf or hearing)
• can or are interested in learning tactile signals.
• are flexible with working hours
• are mature, kind and humble with a desire to enter into a collaboration where the citizen's needs are the ones that are designed around
• are open to learning new things and, in close collaboration with the woman, create good solutions for your collaboration
• humor and good spirits are appreciated
• approach new tasks with curiosity and develop solutions in collaboration with the woman
• have a driving license – the citizen has their own car, which can be used.

If you have an interest in the creative craft of handiwork, that is an advantage, but not a requirement.

Training and support

Before employment you must complete an e-learning course of about 2.5 hours. The course provides an introduction to the work as a contact person for people with combined vision and hearing loss. The completed training is paid.

You will also receive training through

• Collaboration with the citizen
• Introduction and instruction from CFD's deaf-blind consultants
• Ongoing sparring, supervision and course days.

Participation in courses and supervision is also paid.

The position is hourly paid, and the terms of salary and employment are set by Aarhus Municipality, which is the employing authority.
