Moment Professionals is recruiting on behalf of Arkil for a bid estimator to the Aarhus department. We are looking for a competitive estimator who can calculate plant bids sharply and bring project managers, site managers and foremen together for a bid that holds. The role suits you if you want responsibility for the calculation and to drive the process, and if you understand that bid work is a team effort with clearly founded ownership.

Your everyday life at Arkil

You will become part of the bid team in Arkil's Lystrup department north of Aarhus and report to the department manager. The department works after a systematic bidding process where everyone knows who does what: ownership of the bid is clear from pipeline to production to final approval by the department manager before the bid is submitted, and you are a central player in the calculation phase.

Here you drive the maturation of the bid, facilitate kick-off meetings, status updates and closing meetings, gather input from the trades and allocate the tasks. Smaller and simpler bids you calculate independently, so the department can respond quickly to customers and the market.

You calculate quantities and activities, resources, hours, subcontracts, procurement prices, overhead and margin. You obtain bids from subcontractors and suppliers, evaluate them against each other and choose the right partners, also locally, and for larger bids you negotiate the prices on site together with the project management. You give production counterarguments on methods and time consumption and bring in foremen and site managers when their experience makes the bid better.

Projects range from about DKK 1 million to DKK 200 million within infrastructure, utilities, site development and climate projects in the Central Denmark Region, and you also calculate joint bids with Arkil's other departments.

You are involved before the calculation begins, and after the bid is submitted. You participate in the pipeline meetings, where the department selects which segments and tasks it pursues, and contribute with insight and knowledge about market prices and trends. When a bid is submitted, you follow up with the project management on questions and clarifications, and if a bid is lost, you are curious and investigative about why and use the learning to make the pricing in the calculation basis even sharper.

…we are not necessarily looking for an experienced bid estimator from the construction industry. We are looking for you who can calculate a bid, understand the economics behind it and have a strong competitive instinct. You will not just submit a bid – you will win the assignment.

In addition, you take pride in

• standing by your calculation and explaining the choices behind the price.
• giving production and management counterarguments with facts, even when it is uncomfortable.
• getting project managers, foremen and suppliers to deliver what the bid requires, on time.
• finding out why a bid was lost, and use it to make the next one better.

What you need to have

• You have experience with calculation and bid work, either as a bid estimator or estimator at a construction or civil engineering contractor or from a role in production or project management where you have calculated bids on your own projects.
• You understand how equipment, manpower, purchases and subcontracts fit together at a contractor with own production.
• You are familiar with project economy and risks and work safely in a digital calculation program.
• You are strong at reading and understanding tender and project material – from descriptions and drawings to bid lists. You have an eye for opportunities, see through risks and spot the factors that can make the difference between a good bid and a winning bid.
• You speak and write Danish and live within commuting distance to Lystrup.

It is an advantage if you

• have calculated civil works such as roads, sewers and utilities, site development or climate adaptation at a civil contractor with own production.
• have led kick-off and closing meetings or otherwise facilitated a bid process together with the project management.
• have solicited and negotiated prices with subcontractors and suppliers on larger bids.
• Have market understanding and are curious about both development and trends
