About the job

Denmark's Cattle Research Center (DKC), Institute of Animal and Veterinary Sciences at AU Viborg – Research Center Foulum, is seeking two agricultural apprentices who are ready to participate in the daily work with caring for cows and calves as well as related experimental work.

At DKC we conduct experiments with cattle – primarily dairy cows and calves. The herd consists of about 260 cows with breeding. In addition, we have 10-20 intensive cows that are fistulated and housed in a separate department.

We have newer experimental facilities, and you will therefore come to work in state-of-the-art and up-to-date settings with the opportunity to become part of an exciting daily life.

DKC is part of our Center for Animal Facilities, which is a unit under the Institute of Animal and Veterinary Sciences. There are about 55 employees in the center, which takes care of our animal facilities, of whom 4-6 are apprentices. You will become part of a team of about 22 engaged colleagues who take care of the daily work with cattle.

As an apprentice at Aarhus University we ensure, together (practice placement and school), that you gain basic knowledge within agriculture with a specialization in cattle. You will be met by professionally engaged colleagues who are happy to share their knowledge and you will be faced with many exciting tasks during your internship period.

We can offer a good learning environment where animal welfare and the work environment are given high priority. We value willingness for professional development, collegial solidarity and personal commitment.

As an apprentice with us you will work with the care and supervision of dairy cows and calves in production-like conditions. You will be assigned daily tasks as well as experimental tasks on equal terms with the other employees, and participate in meetings with researchers regarding experimental setups and experimental plans.

We expect that you are motivated and engaged in your work. That you have the will for professional development and are good at taking responsibility for your own learning. As a person you are helpful, responsible and solution-oriented. You are good at working independently as well as in teams, show initiative and not least – that you have a good sense of humor.

Employment terms

We imagine that you are in the process of agricultural education and can start your training period in January after completing school, but the training agreement can possibly start earlier.

The position is a full-time position at 37 hours per week, with weekend shift every 3rd weekend.

The workplace is Burrehøjvej 49, 8830 Tjele, and the employment area is Aarhus University with its affiliated institutions.
