About the job
Two pedagogues are sought for the special education center Vittenbergskolen, a permanent position with starting date January 1, 2027 and a maternity leave replacement starting January 1, 2027.
The positions are 35-37 hours per week and are primarily distributed with hours in both the school and after-school part (CFO). The positions are in intensive special education at the Special Education Center.
Special Education Center Vittenberg is a segregated provision for students in Esbjerg Municipality. The target group is students from 0th to 10th grade with extensive physical and mental handicaps and with a combination of severe social, cognitive and communicative challenges.
The positions differ from each other in that in one class the majority of students have multiple functional impairments. These students are all wheelchair users and also have complex issues, including pervasive developmental disorders and autism. In the other class, students have different prerequisites and needs, and the student group is likewise characterized by complex problems and autism. The teaching therefore requires a structured, differentiated and practice-oriented approach, where there is a targeted focus on academic development, communication, relationships and opportunities for participation.
For us, it is about ensuring that all students become as skilled as possible based on their prerequisites. We primarily work to create trust and security among the students, as we see this as the foundation for development and reflection. We always keep the individual child in sight and follow the child’s perspective.
We have a strong focus on AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication), practice-oriented teaching and sensory integration as a natural part of our pedagogical approach. Therefore it would be an advantage if you have experience with or knowledge of AAC and can work with visual communication and individual communication strategies.
We are seeking staff with a strong professional awareness. You must be theoretically well-founded and able to apply it in practice.
It would be advantageous if you have extensive knowledge about working with children with autism and are familiar with developing and working from mastery plans/individual risk assessments.
In the pedagogical work, emphasis is placed on a structured and pedagogically aligned approach to create security and predictability for the students.
We expect our new colleague
- to have strong engagement in intensive special education
- to be appreciative, credible and loyal
- to contribute to a day-to-day life focused on learning, well-being, care and development of the individual student
- to recognize the importance of continuous documentation and follow-up
- to be able to work in a de-escalating manner using a low arousal approach
- to be able to work independently and be ready to develop their own practice in pedagogical learning environments
- to have good skills in cross-disciplinary collaboration and in engaging in close parent collaboration
- to have good communication skills
You can expect that
- you will join a school with a strong focus on development and well-being
- you will meet happy and expectant students, colleagues and parents
- you will have an exciting and varied job with competent colleagues
- you will join a department with a high level of professionalism, a good working environment and a strong sense of community
- you will encounter a wide range of partners
- you will be at a workplace with opportunities for professional and personal sparring/development
