About the job
Do you want to work with Denmark's largest traffic signal environment and help develop the control of traffic in Copenhagen?
We are looking for a traffic engineer who is eager to work with both operations, development and the technical systems behind the city's traffic signals and ITS solutions.
In the Traffic Department we are responsible, among other things, for the operation and development of Copenhagen's approximately 425 traffic signal installations and other intelligent transport systems (ITS), traffic counts and the dissemination of traffic information.
About the job
As a traffic engineer you will be part of the work on regulatory handling, operation, development, design and implementation of the city's traffic signals and ITS equipment. You will work with regulatory handling, review and implementation of new and changed traffic signal installations and ensure that the existing installations function correctly and that the solutions meet the municipality's requirements for functionality, traffic flow and operation. The overarching goal is to ensure good service and mobility for the city's road users in accordance with the political priorities.
Your tasks will include
- contribute to design, development, review and regulatory processing of signal projects
- monitor signal installations and ITS and ensure that operations and mobility are maintained or improved in the city
- collaborate with colleagues and external partners on the development of the city's infrastructure and ongoing adjustments, e.g. during road works
- contribute to answering citizen- and political inquiries about traffic signals and ITS
- help to keep track of signal documentation
You will work closely with colleagues in the Climate, Technical and Environmental Administration as well as with among others signal suppliers, the Danish Road Directorate, Movia and the police.
As part of the team you will also participate in a on-call duty of about three hours per week.
Technology and systems
The position also involves working with the technical systems behind traffic management.
This can include
- use of web interfaces to detector cameras and control units
- testing and trialing signal programs in software
- working in traffic management systems, e.g. MobiMaestro and RMS
- use of tools such as SharePoint and Excel for data and system overview
- insight into and troubleshooting of hardware such as controllers, detectors, signal installations and variable road signs (ITS)
You do not need to know everything from the start – but you should be willing to learn, explore and work with the technology behind the systems.
Your profile
We imagine that you
- have an academic background as an engineer or similar technical education – preferably within road and traffic engineering
- have knowledge of designing traffic signal installations and ITS equipment and preferably experience with programming concepts
- generally have a flair for IT and digital tools
- have knowledge of relevant road regulations and be able to apply them in practice
- have experience from supplier, consultant, municipality or other public administration; this is an advantage but not a requirement
As a person you work in a structured and methodical way, communicate clearly and precisely in both Danish and English and deliver high-quality writing. You are self-driven, follow your tasks through to completion and can convey technical issues clearly to different professional groups and partners. You value knowledge sharing and thrive in collaboration. You will not only make the solutions work in the field but also ensure correct documentation of your work.
Your workplace – Traffic Tower and Islands Brygge 37
You will be based at the Traffic Tower in Copenhagen – a 24/7 staffed operational control centre and Denmark's largest professional environment for traffic signals. Here you will be part of the Traffic Signal, Information and ITS Team and receive close sparring from skilled colleagues. The rest of the unit and the administration are based at Islands Brygge 37, where you will also meet with colleagues.
Salary and employment terms
As an employee of the City of Copenhagen you get good opportunities to balance work and private life with an average 37-hour work week including a lunch break. Part-time options down to 32 hours per week are possible.
Salary and employment terms are set according to the applicable collective agreement and negotiated based on your qualifications.
The position is to be filled as soon as possible.
