About the job

Would you like to help strengthen chemical regulation in the EU and globally? Are you process-oriented and detail-minded? Then read on.

We are seeking two employees for the Chemicals Regulation Office in the Danish Environment Agency: One generalist and one generalist/jurist.

What is common for both positions is that you will work with cross-cutting EU tasks and global conventions, and become part of an engaged team with collaboration at the core.

Tasks in the Chemicals Regulation Office

In the Chemicals Regulation Office we are around 30 colleagues, including 1 office head and 3 functional leaders.

The Chemicals Regulation Office works to ensure that our health and environment are protected against adverse effects of chemicals. Our tasks are broad and include, among other things, tasks related to the assessment and regulation of chemical substances, primarily in accordance with the EU's two main general chemical regulations (REACH and CLP).

In addition, the office's tasks also involve a strong consumer-oriented effort, including various regulations (e.g. cosmetics, toys, cleaning products, electronics), as well as mapping and risk assessments of chemicals in consumer products. Finally, the office handles a number of global tasks in the chemical area, including Rotterdam Convention and the Montreal Protocol.

About the position – what will you primarily be working on?

As an employee in both positions you will contribute broadly to the work with chemicals, including chemical regulation at both EU and global levels. The tasks require close coordination across the office, the Environment Agency and the Ministry of Environment and Food’s department. You should be prepared for travel activities of both shorter and longer duration.

Your final workload can be tailored to qualifications and interests.

In this position you will, among other things, work with

Generalist/jurist

In this position your tasks may include, among other things

  • Global conventions and agreements, for example the Rotterdam Convention, with a focus on EU preparation and global negotiations.
  • Support for handling tasks under the REACH Committee.
  • Legal understanding and administration of relevant EU legislation and the legal aspects of global conventions and agreements.

Our expectations of you

You have a relevant academic education and knowledge of the office's subject areas.

  • High professional level. You have experience with legislation and can understand complex professional issues.
  • Good political understanding. You are familiar with decision-making processes and negotiations – ideally both in the EU and globally.
  • Ability to communicate effectively. You can communicate in writing and orally – in Danish and English.
  • Process-oriented and versatile. You have a knack for political processes and can apply the competencies across tasks.
  • Strong collaboration skills. You are a team player who can involve, engage and ensure close cooperation in case handling.
  • Flexible. You operate flexibly and reliably in a daily life that can sometimes be fast-paced with tight deadlines.

We offer you

With us you will have the opportunity to make a concrete difference for the environment in an organization where both professionalism and well-being are in focus. You will become part of a professional team that values collaboration, development and job satisfaction. In addition, we prioritize social activities that strengthen unity and community in the workplace.
