Are you interested in global programme work and advocacy in an international development context? And would you like to help make a difference for children and young people in vulnerable positions globally? Then you might be our new intern at UNICEF Denmark. Here you will contribute to programme advisory, reporting and work with partnerships in the world’s largest children's organization.
The core of your daily work will be to support the organization’s global programme efforts and advocacy, with a particular focus on global health and education. As an intern you will gain in-depth knowledge of UNICEF Denmark’s programme work, which takes place across UNICEF Denmark and UNICEF’s country offices.
You will join the Global Programmes and Advocacy team and have two internship hosts.
You can expect a daily life where you will
- Assist the team with communication of UNICEF's programmes and results to foundations and companies, including content and layout.
- Help develop pitches, communication materials, meeting preparation, expert presentations and other materials.
- Research for existing partnerships and other project initiatives at UNICEF Denmark.
- Support and research examples of UNICEF's programme and advocacy actions and data for use in external communication.
- Assist with communicating UNICEF's global reports and results internally in the organization across UNICEF's five impact areas.
- Carry out ongoing tasks that support the team. This could for example be related to visits from country offices, participation in events, meetings, advocacy, etc.
- Assist with administrative tasks.
About you
You are interested in advancing UNICEF's development agendas and working with our international programmes in collaboration with our partners. You can work independently and have good communication skills in both Danish and English. Your educational background is not decisive, but we imagine you have experience or knowledge within topics such as global health, education, gender equality, mental health and development.
If you have questions, you are welcome to contact Senior Programme Manager, Elsebeth Qvortrup Iversen, at [email protected] or Global Health and Reporting Manager, Sophia Röckel, at [email protected]
- Intern for Partnerships
Are you interested in strategy, partnership development and organizational development in an international development context? And would you like to help strengthen UNICEF Denmark’s work for children and young people globally? Then it might be you who should be our new intern in Partnerships. Here you will contribute to strategic projects and development processes across the partnerships area of the world’s largest children's organization.
You will be attached to Global Partnerships, which is a department within UNICEF Denmark’s partnerships area. The area works on developing partnerships with businesses, foundations and other key actors to mobilize funding for UNICEF's work for children.
As an intern in Partnerships you will be attached to one or more concrete strategic projects. The projects can cross the partnerships area’s three departments: Global Partnerships, Global Programmes and Advocacy and Future Impact (New Business). You will have the opportunity to dive into strategic issues and contribute to concrete development processes throughout the internship.
You can expect a daily life where you will
- Support strategic projects through research, coordination, documentation and follow-up.
- Contribute to organizational development and development of workflows and cross-cutting collaboration.
- Prepare analyses, presentations and materials for strategic discussions and meetings.
- Support planning of cross-cutting meetings and workshops and follow up on decisions.
- Contribute to other tasks in the Global Partnerships team and across the partnerships area.
About you
You are interested in strategy, organizational development and partnerships in an international organization. You are analytical, structured and proactive and thrive on collaborating across disciplines and teams. Your educational background is not decisive, but we imagine you are in the process of pursuing a relevant higher education in fields such as political science, international development, business economics or organization and leadership. You have good communication skills in both Danish and English.
If you have questions, you are welcome to contact Senior Consultant, Ida Zilmer Johansen at [email protected].
- Intern for Communications and Public Affairs
Are you focused on promoting children's rights in Denmark? Do you have strong methodological and analytical abilities? And are you motivated to put UNICEF Denmark’s priorities on the agenda? Then you might be our intern in Communications and Public Affairs for spring 2027.
In UNICEF Denmark's Communications and Public Affairs department we run UNICEF Denmark’s external communications and political advocacy work. Our work always starts from knowledge and data about children's rights and conditions. Therefore we are looking for an intern with analytical insight, political understanding and good communication skills, who wants to be part of the engine room for our communications and advocacy work.
Tasks
During your internship you will have the opportunity to work with analysis, policy and communication – focusing on children's rights in Denmark. Your tasks will include, for example:
- Contribute to analyses of children's rights in Denmark, including development and setup of questionnaires, interview design, data collection and data processing. In Spring 2027 we will, for example, repeat a survey on children's knowledge of rights. You will be a central part of it.
- Disseminate analyses to different audiences (e.g., politicians, civil servants, the public) through notes, policy briefs, etc.
- Contribute ideas and methodological development for new analyses of children's rights in Denmark.
- Drive research and monitoring tasks e.g. mapping legislation and political actors as well as monitoring political issues and media issues.
- Contribute to concrete campaign projects e.g. Rights Relay 2027 or Day of Play 2027, where there will be various press and communications tasks.
About you
We are looking for an intern who primarily is interested in promoting children's rights and conditions in Denmark. You should have experience with social science methods and be used to working with analysis design, data collection and processing as well as communication. It is an advantage – but not a requirement – if you are familiar with Enalyzer and Stata/R, which are some of the analysis tools we use. We also look for an intern who can communicate clearly and confidently in writing.
Finally, you should have a basic understanding of the Danish political system and be able to analyze the political positions of parties.
We offer
In the Communications and Public Affairs department we are seven staff with different professional backgrounds in communications, press, analysis and public affairs. We work with both foreign/development policy agendas and national agendas concerning children in Denmark. You will be working with the latter. Therefore you will also work closely with colleagues in the national department, who are responsible for our national programmes and projects – e.g., UNICEF Rights Schools, Child-Friendly Municipality and All Right.
If you have questions about the internship, you are welcome to contact Mathias Heilesen, Head of Policy and Analysis, at [email protected].
- Intern for UNICEF Denmark national work
Are you focused on promoting children's rights in Denmark? Do you want to help create better opportunities for children and young people to have a voice? And would you like to contribute to projects that, for example, increase children’s knowledge of rights, strengthen children’s safety online or put children's right to play and leisure on the agenda? Then you might be UNICEF Denmark’s national intern!
Through UNICEF Denmark’s national efforts we work to promote children’s rights in Denmark. In the department we work with concrete programmes and projects that spread knowledge of children's rights among children and adults and strengthen children’s participation and influence.
Right now we are looking for an intern who wants to be part of the engine room in UNICEF Denmark’s national efforts. This includes initiatives such as UNICEF Rights Schools, Children’s New Year’s Speech, Child-Friendly Municipalities, Day of Play and All Right.
Your tasks will include, among others
- Contribute to planning and execution of a large conference on child participation, which will be held in April 2027. There will also be communications tasks, including production of short videos with children before the conference, which you will contribute to.
- Contribute to planning and execution of Day of Play, which is a UN-designated day on June 11, focusing on children's right to play.
- Contribute to our general programme and project work with e.g. coordination, analysis, evaluation and communication. Here we will find tasks and projects that match your interests and competencies.
- Contribute to UNICEF Denmark’s learning universe by quality assuring various learning materials.
About you
We are looking for an intern who primarily is interested in children’s rights and conditions in Denmark. You should have experience with the different phases of an event project from idea generation, planning, execution, evaluation and communication. You also have a basic understanding of the social or educational sector in Denmark. Your educational background is not decisive, but we typically look for a social sciences student. Finally, it is a plus if you have experience with engaging children and young people.
We offer
In UNICEF Denmark’s national department we are eight staff with different professional backgrounds and responsibilities for different projects. We try to give you tasks that match your tasks and interests. In addition, we work closely with other departments in the building. As an intern you will therefore be part of a daily life with colleagues who work with analyses, political advocacy and communications.
If you have questions about the internship, you are welcome to contact Mathias Heilesen, interim head of the national department, at [email protected].
Are you our forthcoming intern?
We offer an internship with good development opportunities, where you learn the inner workings of a Danish organization in the UN family. You can also look forward to a daily life where you gain broad contact across the organization – including other interns and students in the organization. You will thus have the opportunity to collaborate with many different disciplines. We place a lot of emphasis on the interns’ professional development, so you will continuously receive guidance on your tasks, including regular status meetings with your internship supervisor.
The internship period must be approved by your educational institution.
The internship is unpaid and the working hours are in principle 37 hours per week. We are flexible with the internship period, but we expect you to start in early February and finish by the end of June 2027.
Your daily work will be at our office, located at Rentemestervej 62, Copenhagen NV.
If you think one or more of the above internships sound exciting, apply today! We call for interviews on an ongoing basis, so please upload your application (max one page) and CV as soon as possible and no later than 28 October at 23:59. Indicate first and/or second priority and upload an application for each internship if you are applying for more than one.
We look forward to hearing from you!
