About the department

The Cardiology Department is staffed for 29 patients, and we primarily treat patients with heart disease. The Cardiology Department is located in the emergency building, where there are large single rooms for nearly all our patients. The single-room concept makes it possible to focus on patient and relative involvement. We can monitor patients with telemetry and stationary scopes/mobile scopes. In addition, we perform observation and description of telemetry from other wards in the hospital.

The department is divided into 2 groups, where work is performed with allocated patient care based on FoC. Each nurse today has responsibility for 5 - 6 patients and handles both personal care and ward round function for these patients. In the evening shift, each nurse is responsible for 6-7 patients each and at night up to 9 - 10 patients each. The staff group consists mainly of nurses.

Each morning on weekdays there is departmental teaching/conference, through which the staff's competencies can be kept up to date and improved. We also have students and trainees in the department. In addition, we participate in the training of ambulance technicians/paramedics.

Medically, there is a cardiologist present from 8 am – 9 pm every day throughout the year. This provides a high patient flow in the department with rapid assessment/diagnosis and consequently short hospital stay lengths.

On a daily basis, we have close cooperation with the Heart Clinic in both Viborg/Skive and Silkeborg, where patients undergo various examinations. The heart clinics have in recent years shifted many patient pathways from inpatient to outpatient courses and continuously work to optimize patient pathways. In the heart clinics there is a high degree of task sharing between doctors and nurses.

Interdisciplinary subspecialties have been established in, among others, AFLI, AK, heart failure, rehabilitation, pacing, etc. In the Heart Clinic there are also 2 operating rooms for pacemaker implantations.

Both inpatient and outpatient patients are received for e.g. Heart CT, TEE, DC conversions, Echo and pacemaker implantations.
