About the job

Vejle Midtbyskole seeks pedagogues who are world champions in special education. Do you want to help create positive school experiences and support emotional regulation in children in the early primary years? We are looking for a dedicated and experienced pedagogue for our special needs primary section. A pedagogue who is passionate about working with mentalizing communication and “low arousal methods".

About the job

Are you the pedagogue who can create good experiences and structure, both on your own and with the teams you collaborate with, to benefit the children?

As a pedagogue with us you will play a central role in working with children in our special needs offering in the early years, where you, with your professional knowledge and pedagogical experience, will help create safe and development-oriented frameworks.

Your work will focus on supporting children in their sensory and emotional development, where you, among other things, by means of mentalizing communication, create positive experiences that can strengthen their relationships and well-being as they participate in communities. You will guide and support them in transitions both during school hours and to the after-school program (SFO).

You have knowledge and experience or a desire to develop in the following areas

  • Mentalizing communication: You will work on understanding and reflecting children’s feelings and thoughts, with the aim of promoting mutual understanding and creating security in the relationship.
  • Low arousal methods: You will use low arousal as an educational approach to support children's emotional regulation, thereby helping them manage stress and conflicts in an appropriate way.
  • Create positive school experiences: Through deliberate and present presence you will work to create situations where children feel seen, heard and understood.
  • Collaboration and development: You will engage in close collaboration with colleagues, parents and other professionals to ensure a holistic approach that supports each child’s development and well-being.
  • Sensory development: You will, through playful learning, sensory integration and similar methods, support students’ sensory development for their well-being.
  • Creative activities: Through movement or music, theater/role-playing you will give students an opportunity to succeed.
  • The position involves a combined presence during school hours and the afternoon SFO, as well as school holidays. We value smooth transitions and coherence. Working hours will be placed in the period 6:30 – 17:00.

We would like to offer our future colleague

  • A school with energy, where laughter and joy are important in our work environment.
  • An exciting and meaningful job where you make a difference in children’s lives.
  • A diverse student group with high expectations for staff.
  • An environment where we know you are a person outside of work as well, and therefore we value the whole person.
  • A school that has both a general and a special department with grades from 0–9 distributed across two campuses, where children in the after-school program are currently integrated, but where we are working on establishing a “Pause Room” for students who need smaller surroundings.
  • Professionally strong and engaged colleagues who work purposefully to create the best conditions for the development of children and young people.
  • A workplace that values openness, collaboration and a positive approach to challenges.
  • Ongoing sparring with the school’s resource persons
  • An after-school program that collaborates with music and cultural institutions – e.g. the project Rabalder.

The upcoming colleague should have the following personal qualities and qualifications

We value the person highly, but of course also your professionalism, so we would like you to be curious about your own practice within pedagogy and didactics. We see you as a person who is reflective, smiling and inclusive in thoughts and actions. Willing to engage in ongoing sparring – both as a receiver and a giver.

In addition, we would like to have

  • You have a certificate of education as a pedagogue.
  • You see parents as an important resource, are good at collaborating with parents, and can meet them where they are – regardless of background and prerequisites.
  • You have interest in and professional experience with co-regulation through presence and communication (low arousal) and can actively support the development of self-regulation of emotions and behavior, e.g. through daily structure, activities and play.
  • You have assertiveness, are clear and boundary-setting while also providing security and presence.

If you match the job, tell us in your application what motivates you to apply for the position.

Vejle Midtbyskole

We are a school that raises students academically and socially through a strong community, collaboration across parents, external and internal partners and the schools in Vejle Municipality.

We challenge traditional assumptions with a more playful approach and diverse learning environments, so we raise all children academically and in terms of well-being. You should be able to see yourself in an environment with a high ceiling, where management and staff are in close dialogue about new initiatives and unconventional ways of running a school. We share the responsibility for our children’s development, therefore we dare to make mistakes. We continuously develop and can thereby create a greater learning process for both staff and children – the community learns together!

We are a public school located in the center of Vejle. The school is divided into two departments. One department is 0–6th grade and a department for 7th–9th grade with a special department on each campus.

Our special offering is a Level 1 program for students with ADHD, autism, general learning difficulties and emotional regulation.

We are around 550 students and 100 staff.
