About the job
Do you want to contribute to protecting people who are exposed to particular security conditions? And would you like to put your leadership skills to use in an organization where everyday life never becomes ordinary? Then you have the opportunity to become Deputy Police Inspector in the Center for Personal Protection in the Danish Security and Intelligence Service (PET).
The Protective Security Force is a specialized unit under PET, whose primary purpose is to ensure protection of persons who are exposed to particular security conditions – for example members of the royal family, the government, or diplomats with special status. As an integrated part of the protection concept, the unit is also responsible for guarding the sites related to personal protection.
The unit operates at the intersection of intelligence activities and tactical protection. This means that the work is not only about physical presence, but about continuous threat assessment, preventive planning, and proactive risk management.
The Protective Security Force is characterized by a high professional level, where discretion, rapid decision-making, and the ability to act in complex, unpredictable environments are fundamental prerequisites for solving the task.
About the position in PET’s Protective Security Force
You will report to the chief of the Protective Security Force. As Deputy Police Inspector, you will be responsible for ensuring the strategic direction for one of the three major units within the Protective Security Force, which is responsible for security at the political, royal, and diplomatic levels respectively. This is done in collaboration with the rest of the management. This implies continuous development of security concepts, methodologies and operational standards that future-proof the force against new threat pictures.
In addition you will
- have direct management responsibility for the unit’s middle managers. You must ensure that the operationally responsible managers have the right prerequisites, tools and mandate to lead their respective teams, and that the leadership culture is consistent and professional.
- be responsible for the overall management of your unit’s resources. You must ensure an optimal balance between daily operational drift, planned protection tasks and the necessary resources for training and skills development.
- bear the overall responsibility for ensuring that security solutions planned are executed with high accuracy. You act as a guarantor that 360-degree security analyses are translated into practical and effective protection.
- be responsible for navigating the political and organizational framework so that your unit’s task execution always takes place within the bounds of the law and political priorities.
- be responsible for creating and maintaining a work culture characterized by professionalism, mutual respect and high psychological safety – even under pressure periods.
You also serve as a link between the Protective Security Force and other parts of PET as well as external stakeholders. You must also ensure that management acts with empathy and inclusion, even when difficult decisions are made.
About you as Deputy Police Inspector in PET
It is important for us that you have a sharp eye for the details that can have decisive strategic significance. You understand that small nuances in intelligence, planning or behavior can have far-reaching consequences for security, and you know how to translate these observations into proactive action.
In addition we expect that you
- are able to see security solutions from multiple angles. You think holistically and include technical, tactical, and human factors to create robust and well-developed security concepts.
- think creatively and focus on the fact that the current security picture requires a diverse and forward-looking approach to the tasks
- have experience balancing resources with urgent operational needs. You understand how to prioritise the right actions to ensure maximum protection without compromising operational flexibility.
- can execute on difficult and unavoidable decisions. You master the balance between being resolute in critical situations and at the same time showing the necessary involvement and empathy toward your staff, ensuring backing and well-being – even under high pressure.
- navigate effortlessly in a complex political landscape and understand the stakeholders surrounding the service. You have an in-depth understanding of the organizational framework and can translate political decisions into operational reality.
- have a solid foundation in the police’s core tasks, legislation and methodology, which enables you to lead specialists with professional authority.
- thrive in developing and coaching other leaders. You master the art of delegating responsibility, building strong teams and ensuring a coherent leadership culture across the force.
In PET we also place high value on certain personal competencies. These are competencies that we believe are essential for all PET employees regardless of professional background. We do this because it is important for us to find the right match. You can read about the competencies here www.pet.dk/job.
