About the job
Are you passionate about data and statistics, and do you think cows are a fantastic animal? Do you want to help develop a more sustainable cattle farming in Denmark? Then you might be the colleague we are looking for for an exciting job at SEGES Innovation.
In SEGES Innovation we offer you a career with meaning. Our innovation and knowledge make a difference both in everyday life and in the long term. Our specialists work with everything from climate and environment, plants, animals and digital solutions to growth and knowledge dissemination. Together we contribute to the solutions that make agriculture and food production even more sustainable.
In the Livestock Department we are currently seeking a person with education in agrobiology, statistics, mathematics, data science or the like. Your educational background is not the most important. The most important is that you have strong analytical skills, interest in data and a desire to help develop the basis for breeding work with cattle in Denmark and the Nordics.
What will you do?
As our new colleague you will be part of the department responsible for development and operation of breeding value assessment for dairy cattle, beef cattle, sheep and goats. We are nine people who work closely together on everything from data collection on individual cows to the implementation of advanced statistical models. You will be responsible for concrete tasks and projects, but we actively draw on each other\'s knowledge and competencies. We usually have a busy schedule, and our experience is that we achieve the most through collaboration.
Your area of work will primarily be development projects where we develop the breeding value figures that farmers and breeding organizations use to select the best breeding animals as parents for the next generation. This can for example be breeding value figures for reduced methane emissions or traits that improve animal welfare and disease resistance. The basis is large amounts of data from, among other things, genomic tests and measurements on cows and calves.
One of the things we ourselves think is best about our work is the opportunity to be involved in shaping future projects and professional focus areas. Therefore, collecting, developing and prioritizing new ideas is an important part of our daily life. At the same time it motivates us to see that what we develop is used in practice by farmers and makes a real difference.
A typical day
We are practical number nerds, and our projects typically last 1 to 4 years. A normal workday often starts with statistical analyses or development tasks. We work closely as a group and have fixed morning meetings three times a week where we briefly share the status of our tasks and any challenges.
Even though you have your own areas of responsibility, there is always an experienced colleague to brainstorm with, and Teams is used frequently for both big and small questions throughout the day. As you gain experience, you will also have dialogue with breeding advisors and farmers, and the opportunity to present results and recommendations.
You thus get a varied daily life with opportunities for both deepening, professional development and collaboration.
The project portfolio for 2026 and 2027 is already set, but we have good opportunities to tailor parts of the tasks to your interests and competencies.
We dream that you
- Want to analyze large datasets.
- Want to develop new ideas and potentially lead development projects.
- Can communicate clearly and precisely, both verbally and in writing.
- Can program in SAS or Python or are eager to learn it.
- Are interested in data analysis and want to learn more about cattle production and breeding.
What you get with us
You become part of a strong professional environment with the opportunity to develop in statistical models, programming, project management and the communication of complex analyses.
When you start, we have a plan ready for both your introduction to the group\'s work and your first tasks in the short and long term. You will be assigned a colleague who ensures that you get off to a good start.
If you do not have in-depth knowledge of cattle, that is not a problem. We help you build the necessary understanding, and if you like, we are happy to send you on a visit to a herd so you get a good insight into the industry and the issues we work with.
Practical information
Employment desired as soon as possible. We conduct interviews on an ongoing basis and hire when we have found the right candidate. If you have questions about the position, you are welcome to contact the department head Anders Fogh at phone 51 73 73 23.
We look forward to hearing from you and welcoming a new colleague to the work of developing the future sustainable cattle farming.
