About the job

In the global technological race, major powers are striving to be first with new and disruptive technologies. This means that the intelligence activities of foreign states target Danish knowledge, technology, and innovation. At the same time, new technologies are developing rapidly and create new opportunities and challenges for Denmark.

It requirements strong relations to the environments where new knowledge and technology are developed. In this position you will play a central role in developing PET’s strategic partnerships with the research and innovation sector and thus contribute to the work of uncovering foreign states’ intelligence activities in Denmark.

You will be part of the Center for Analysis and Outreach, which has the task of ensuring that PET always has an up-to-date intelligence picture of the main trends in the threat from foreign states. CAO works to understand and manage developments in foreign states’ intelligence activities and to share relevant knowledge with actors in society. You will have a broad contact surface both internally within PET and towards the research and innovation landscape. Your daily life will be characterized by a work environment with high confidentiality, volatility and high professional demands.

Strategic partnerships in the cross-field between security, research and technology

Among other things you will have to relate to Danish research and innovation, including areas such as quantum technology, biotechnology and artificial intelligence, where development is rapid and where the technologies can have significance for Denmark’s security. You must be able to understand the needs both in PET and from our partners and translate them into meaningful and strategic collaborations.

You will among other things

  • develop and maintain strategic partnerships with relevant actors within research, innovation and technology
  • process and communicate PET’s strategic analyses and assess which analyses and perspectives are relevant for civilian actors
  • participate in policy work and relate to relevant hearings
  • identify new collaboration opportunities and take the initiative to establish relationships that can support PET’s tasks in the counter-espionage area
  • represent PET in international collaborations in this area

From relationships to strategic collaborations

You must both be able to build strong relationships and see how they can be developed into concrete collaborations. This requires that you are curious about other organizations’ realities and can understand their perspectives and needs.

At the same time you must be able to understand PET’s mission and see where collaboration with the outside world can make a difference. A central part of your role will be to function as a liaison who can translate the complex security policy threat picture into a context that makes sense for the research and innovation sector . You must be able to make the overarching security challenges relevant to their specific reality.

You must be able to move from the individual relationship to the strategic perspective and identify with whom PET should be in dialogue. This requires strong situational awareness and the ability to operate in the tension between PET’s closed assignment-solving and an open world in which you communicate security considerations with both understanding and discretion.

Who are you?

We envision you as an experienced profile with a relevant academic background and documented experience in driving strategic collaborations. In addition we place emphasis on that you:

  • are a skilled bridge-builder who can build relationships across different environments
  • have strong analytical and communication skills
  • possess natural political acumen
  • are strong in professional communication in both Danish and English
  • have experience with, or willingness to learn more about, critical technologies and innovation
  • have experience with intelligence work, though this is not a requirement

A day that never becomes routine

As an employee of PET you will become part of a daily life characterized by tasks that do not exist elsewhere, and every day offers new challenges that did not exist yesterday. We are very different, and therefore we can make a difference. It is about who you are and what you contribute.

Although our work is characterized by the seriousness of the higher purpose, the tone is informal, and you will experience a unique camaraderie across departments and areas of expertise. We have a daily life that never becomes routine, and you can experience that too.

PET creates operational results through relationships both inside and outside the fence. We therefore place emphasis on your ability to build and maintain relations with people from very different backgrounds.

In addition we value certain personal competencies highly at PET. These are competencies that we believe are essential for all PET employees regardless of academic background. We do this because it is important to us that we find the right match. You can read about the competencies here www.pet.dk/job.
