About the job

Center for Children & Learning, The Green Wedge Childcare

We are seeking three educated staff members with solid special education experience for our new special day care at The Green Wedge Childcare

Some children need extra predictability, a specially pedagogical learning environment, and particular support to be able to unfold themselves and be part of a children's community. Do you have experience in creating precisely these frameworks? And would you like to use your professional expertise in a new offering, where you get the opportunity to shape everyday life from the start?

At The Green Wedge in Hvalsø we are establishing a special day care according to §82 of the Children’s Act, with space for up to five referred children. We expect to open on January 1, 2027 and are now seeking the first three educated staff members for the team. There may be opportunities for employment before the opening.

Target group

Special day care is a specialized offering. The service targets children aged 0-6 years who have a significant and lasting physical or mental disability and who require a holistic, therapeutic, specialized and interdisciplinary effort that cannot be met in a standard day care under the Day Care Act, even with special support measures.

A small, secure base in a larger preschool

Our ambition is to create a daily life where children feel understood, can express themselves, and have the opportunity to participate based on their current resources and needs.

The service will have its own clear base in The Green Wedge Childcare with clear activity areas, space for movement and the possibility to withdraw. We will arrange with consideration for light, sound and sensory impressions and continuously adapt the frames and approach to the concrete children.

We work from four core needs: The child must be able to find space for regulation and immersion, understand, communicate and participate .

At the same time, the service becomes part of our existing preschool. With familiar adults, and the possibility to explore and return to the base, we create meaningful encounters with the rest of the house’s children and communities.

Your professional input should help shape the offering

You will become part of a new team, which together with the management and PPR will translate the pedagogical intentions into a safe and developmental everyday life for the children.

The task includes both close interaction with the individual child and the work of developing shared routines and learning environments. You must be able to be present in play, support the child in everyday practical situations, and notice when we need to change our approach or the settings.

Among other things, you will be responsible for

Creating secure relationships and supporting the children’s play, communication and participation. Planning an overview of daily life with visual support and recognizable transitions. Adapting activities and sensory environments to the individual child’s needs. Observing, documenting and evaluating the children’s well-being and development together with the team. Collaborating closely and respectfully with the parents and relevant professionals, including PPR and the Children and Youth Advisory Council.

We are looking for someone who has experience and is eager to build something up

You have a relevant pedagogical education and clear experience with special pedagogical work with children. You can articulate your professional choices and show how you translate your knowledge into daily practice.

We know that everyday life can be complex, and we are looking for someone who can handle the unpredictable and navigate with calm, professional judgment and a view for both the individual child and the community.

We place special emphasis on the fact that you

Meet the child with curiosity and a sense of resources, even when the child’s expression is difficult to understand. Have experience in supporting children who need help with communication, regulation and participation. Can remain calm and adapt demands, pace and expectations. Have knowledge of visual structure and preferably alternative and supplementary communication. Work systematically while also being able to adjust your practice when the child shows us something new. Contribute to a team where we share doubts, provide professional sparring and take responsibility for the task.

You should be prepared for a start-up where we develop practice along the way. It requires initiative and patience, but also offers the opportunity to leave a clear professional imprint.

What you will be part of

At The Green Wedge we work with NEST-inspired pedagogy and a resource-oriented view of children. We are focused on how adults’ organization and the learning environment can create better opportunities for all children to participate.

You will have the opportunity to help establish a small special pedagogical offering and at the same time be a colleague in a larger preschool. We want a professional community with room for reflection, humor and honest dialogue. With us, “Say it out loud” means we speak openly and respectfully about what works and what challenges us.
