About the job
Are you the one who creates calm when the rest of the house is asleep?
At Fenrishus we are looking for a care assistant for our night shift team.
We are receiving more children and youths, and therefore we need another colleague who wants to be an important part of their everyday life – also at night.
Maybe you are the type who naturally notices when a child needs a little extra presence.
Maybe you can keep calm when something unexpected arises.
Maybe you are curious about people and want to understand what lies behind a reaction.
And maybe you are also the type who shows up with a desire to be part of a team – and who would rather ask: “What can we do?” than “Why should we do it now?”
We would love to hear from you.
About the job
As a night shift worker at Fenrishus you will work with children and youths with complex issues and different needs for support, care and nursing.
The night is not just about being present while the children sleep. You are an important part of their safety, well-being and quality of life – and you must be able to be present and attentive to the individual child's needs, even when communication does not necessarily take place with words.
We work professionally and medically with the children and the youths, but we believe that professionalism and humanity should go hand in hand.
Therefore it matters to us that you
- meet the children and the youths with calm, respect and warmth
- are curious about the individual person rather than assuming you already know the answer
- can take responsibility and act when the situation requires it
- actively contribute to good collaboration with your colleagues
- dare bring your observations and ideas into play, development is taken seriously by the management
- can see opportunities and solutions – even when something is difficult
- have a desire to learn and develop professionally
- understand the value of interdisciplinary collaboration
- can be present and caring without losing your professionalism
- It is a requirement that you have a driver's license
You do not need to know everything from the start. We provide a tailored introductory program.
If you have experience with children and youths with complex needs, that is of course an advantage. But the most important is that you have the willingness, curiosity and respect for the person you are facing. The rest we can help you learn.
You will become part of a night shift team
Although most of the house is asleep at night, you are never just ‘alone at work’.
You will become part of a larger night shift team and a workplace where we value openness, dialogue and helping each other. Currently there are at least 4 people from the night shift team on duty each night.
We need colleagues who want to help create a culture where we share knowledge, ask each other for advice and take responsibility for both the children, the youths and one another.
For us a good colleague is not necessarily the one who always has the answer.
It is also the one who is curious, communicates clearly, helps a colleague when there is a need – and contributes to it being nice to go to work.
The most important thing is the children
At Fenrishus the needs of the child and the youth are the focal point.
We work with care, presence, relief and quality of life, and with respect that each child and each young person is a person with their own story, resources and needs.
This requires professionalism. But it also requires heart, a view of the individual person and the courage to be present – even when it is difficult.
If you can see yourself in that, we would love to hear from you.
Experience is an advantage – but your approach to people matters at least as much.
About Fenrishus and SBU
Fenrishus is a department under the Special Area of Children and Youth (SBU) and is located on Fenrisvej in Aarhus. Here we receive children and youths aged 0-25 years with massive and lasting psychiatric and physical handicaps. At Fenrishus social- and health assistants, nursing assistants, nurses, pedagogues and therapists work in a strong multidisciplinary environment.
Through observations and nursing measures we ensure that the health of the children and youths is as good as possible. We treat, in collaboration with a pediatrician, the complications the children and youths have or develop as a consequence of their handicap.
The efforts take place in close collaboration with the children's parents.
Since all children and youths at Fenrishus have diagnoses of a life-threatening nature, and thus a shorter life expectancy, the palliative approach is used, which in short means a focus on alleviating suffering and quality of life for the individual child/young person and their family.
SBU consists of several specialized departments, internal schools and special kindergartens. In addition we offer STU and individually tailored day offers. This enables the organization to step in when municipalities request a particularly specialized offer. For us it is an important societal task to create opportunities for the most vulnerable children and youths. You can read more on our website.
