About the job
Do you want to make a difference for young people who need us to think about school in a different way? And are you passionate about the autism field, relationships, school absence and creating opportunities for students who do not always fit into the school's ordinary frameworks?
Then it may be you we are looking for.
We are seeking a committed and relationship‑oriented educator. We are looking for you who can see possibilities when something is difficult, and who want to help develop our pedagogical practice around students who need other frameworks, more flexibility and closer adult support in order to be part of the school.
This is a permanent 37‑hour position and it is hoped to be filled as soon as possible or by 1 December 2026. We can be flexible regarding the employment percentage.
A position with a special focus
In this position you will play a central role in the work on students' wellbeing, participation and attachment to the school. A significant part of your tasks will concern students with school absence or early school absence, where the goal is to create a safe and realistic path back to the school.
For example, this could be through
· close relationship work with students who have difficulty coming to school
· individual and flexible approaches around the student's return to school
· collaboration with parents, your team, management and relevant cross‑professional partners
· planning and supporting good transitions – both into the school, between offers and in connection with changes in the student's school day
· participation in the work around students who, for periods, need a smaller and more manageable community
· creating a bridge between the smaller community and the student’s other class and school community
· helping to develop frameworks and pedagogical strategies that make it possible for more students to participate in the school's communities.
You will therefore experience a daily life where the task is not always to make the student fit into the existing frameworks – but where we together explore what is needed for the student to succeed and feel like part of the community.
We believe that behavior makes sense, and that our task is to be curious about what lies behind it.
On autism track we work to create predictability, structure, clarity, relational security and appropriate demands.
We do not view a student’s school absence as a lack of willingness to go to school. We investigate what the absence tells us, and how we together with the student can create a path back. It requires both professional knowledge, patience, creativity and courage to think differently.
You will become part of a strong professional community
You will work closely with teachers and educators on the autism track.
We place emphasis on that we
· work systematically and with a common direction
· share knowledge and experiences
· are curious about each other’s perspectives
· dare to be exploratory when something does not work
· work with both the student’s individual needs and the student’s possibility to be part of the community
· have an eye for both wellbeing, learning, development and future opportunities.
We imagine that you
· are a trained educator and preferably have experience with special education and/or autism
· have an interest in working with young people in upper primary/secondary
· have experience with or a desire to work with school absence
· are strong in relationship work and can build trust – also when contact with the student is difficult
· can work both independently and closely with others
· are calm, clear and persistent
· can maintain an overview when a student’s needs require flexibility
· can translate observations and pedagogical knowledge into concrete actions
· see parents as important partners
· are eager to develop yourself professionally and actively contribute to the development of the autism track
It is an advantage if you have experience with school absence and autism, but the most important is that you want to understand the individual student and find ways to participate.
With us you get
· an exciting and meaningful pedagogical task
· the opportunity to make a tangible difference for young people who need something other than the traditional school offering
· close cross‑professional collaboration
· the opportunity to influence and develop the pedagogical practice
· a workplace focused on professionalism, relationships and community
· motivated colleagues who are passionate about special education and especially autism
· the possibility of professional sparring and development.
· clear leadership through honest dialogue, professional sparring and a sustained focus on both the core task, the community and the department’s development.
Would you like to be part of this?
If you can see yourself in a daily life where no day is exactly alike, where the relationship is crucial, and where small steps can be big victories, we would very much like to hear from you.
We look forward to meeting you and telling you more about the position, the autism track and our work at Sct. Jacobi School.
