About the job

Do you want to make a difference for young people who need us to think about school differently? And are you passionate about the autism field, relationships, school attendance and creating participation opportunities for students who don’t always fit within the school's ordinary frameworks?

Then it may be you we are looking for.

We are seeking an engaged and relationship-focused educator. We are looking for you who can see possibilities when something is difficult and who want to help develop our pedagogical practice around students who need alternative settings, more flexibility and closer adult support to be able to be part of the school.

It is a permanent 37-hour position and it is desired to be filled as soon as possible or by 1 December 2026. We can be flexible regarding the employment fraction.

A role with a special focus

In this position you will have a central role in the work on students’ well-being, participation and belonging at the school. A substantial part of your tasks will revolve around students with school absenteeism or early signs of absenteeism, where the goal is to create a safe and realistic path back to school.

It can, for example, be through

· close relationship-building with students who find it difficult to come to school

· individual and flexible interventions around the student's return to school

· collaboration with parents, your team, management and relevant interdisciplinary partners

· planning and supporting good transitions – into school, between offers and in connection with changes in the student’s school day

· participation in the work around students who, in periods, need a smaller and more manageable community

· creating a bridge between the smaller community and the student’s other class- and school community

· contributing to developing frameworks and pedagogical strategies that enable more students to participate in the school’s communities.

You will thus experience a daily life where the task is not always to make the student fit into existing frameworks – but where we together explore what is needed for the student to succeed and feel part of the community.

We believe that behavior makes sense, and that it is our job to be curious about what lies behind it.

In autism track we work to create predictability, structure, clarity, relational safety and appropriate demands.

We do not see a student’s school absenteeism as a lack of willingness to go to school. We examine what the absenteeism tells us, and how together with the student we can create a path back. It requires professionalism, patience, creativity and courage to think differently.

You will become part of a strong professional community

You will work closely with teachers and educators in the autism track.

We emphasize that we

· work systematically and with a common direction

· share knowledge and experiences

· are curious about each other’s perspectives

· dare to be investigative when something doesn’t work

· work with both the student’s individual needs and the student’s possibility to be part of the community

· have an eye for both well-being, learning, development and future possibilities.

We envisage that you

· are educated as an educator and preferably have experience with special education and/or autism

· have an interest in working with older students in the upper secondary levels

· have experience with or a desire to work with school absenteeism

· are strong in relationship-building and can create trust – even when contact with the student is difficult

· can work both independently and closely with others

· are calm, clear and persistent

· can maintain an overview when a student’s needs require flexibility

· can translate observations and pedagogical knowledge into concrete actions

· see parents as important partners

· want to develop professionally and actively contribute to the development of the autism track

It is an advantage if you have experience with school absenteeism and autism, but the most important is that you want to understand the individual student and find ways to participation.

With us you get

· an exciting and meaningful pedagogical task

· the opportunity to make a concrete difference for young people who need something other than the traditional school offering

· close interdisciplinary collaboration

· the opportunity to influence and develop the pedagogical practice

· a workplace with a focus on professionalism, relationships and community

· dedicated colleagues who are passionate about special pedagogy and especially autism

· opportunities for professional sparring and development.

· clear leadership via honest dialogue, professional sparring and a sustained focus on both the core task, the community and the department’s development.

Would you like to be part of it?

If you can see yourself in a daily life where no day is completely alike, where the relationship is decisive, and where small progress can be big victories, we would love to hear from you.

We look forward to meeting you and telling you more about the position, the autism track and our work at Sct. Jacobi School.
