About the job

Do you have a strategic eye, enjoy taking responsibility for solutions, and are you motivated by being very close to the decision-making room? Then you might be our new colleague in the Directorate Secretariat at the Environmental Protection Agency.

We are looking for an experienced and responsible colleague who can join a team that supports the directorate’s work to ensure that more environmental policy is implemented and makes a real impact in the world for the benefit of nature and the environment, while at the same time drafting decision briefs for the political decision-makers.

In the Directorate Secretariat you will come close to the highest-priority cases in the agency, and you will need to build bridges across the directorate, decentralized units and our ministry. You will have the opportunity to get right into the top management room and are expected to actively contribute to solving difficult case complexities in the form of process management, cross-cutting strategic thinking and general guidance to the agency’s heads and employees.

About the Environmental Protection Agency

The Environmental Protection Agency is part of the Ministry of Environment and is the authority on environmental matters. We work for clean water, safe chemicals and green production. Our core task is to translate environmental legislation into reality.

With our strategy “Proactive Environmental Protection Agency – One coherent authority,” there is a clear direction: We translate professional knowledge into decision bases and political decisions into concrete results for the environment, nature, sustainable fishing, climate adaptation, citizens and businesses. It requires employees who can translate high professional knowledge into action – and who help us become one coherent authority across our many locations.

The Environmental Protection Agency is nationwide and has about 1,000 employees. The agency’s headquarters with about 700 workplaces is based in Odense. We are an organization built on a strong professional foundation, where new and experienced employees work, create and learn together. It is a shared ambition to create a fun and exciting everyday life with a rich culture of ideas and a workplace that is one of the state’s best – while we keep an eye on nature and the environment in Denmark.

About the Directorate Secretariat

The Directorate Secretariat is centrally located in the agency and supports the entire agency in several ways with directorate services, press and internal and external communications. The tasks include process and delivery management of directorate cases, sparring with the agency’s management, quality assurance of ministerial servicing and close dialogue with the ministry.

There is close collaboration between the Directorate Secretariat and the agency’s other offices, so you will have a broad collaboration surface with many different professional disciplines in the rest of the organization and thus come close to the environmental-policy work.

We are specifically seeking colleagues for these tasks

You will play a central role in ensuring a solution-oriented and effective governance and cross-cutting prioritization of the directorate’s cases. Among other things, you will need to:

  • Quality-assure cases and decision briefs before they are presented to the directorate, so they are academically robust.
  • Plan and drive particular prioritized processes.
  • Proactively identify and seize cases that require cross-organization coordination before they become critical.
  • Systematically follow up on progress and quality in selected strategic and cross-cutting cases.

The role requires that you can independently assess a case, including when a case is sufficiently informed to act on and whether the directorate’s overall priorities and strategy are observed.

Qualifications

The entry angle to this position can be varied, so the right candidate will be hired either as a consultant or as a legal adviser depending on your qualifications and education. An unequivocal requirement is that you have solid professional experience from a similar position, from a agency or other public authority. In addition, we value that you:

  • Have extensive experience with political decision-making processes, administration, substantial case work and preparation of decision briefs for political/top-management level – in a state or municipal setting
  • Are responsible and can act independently with a solid overview, even when deadlines are tight and cases are complex
  • Are proactive and actively pursue tasks and coordination that create the most value for the agency
  • Have well-developed collaboration skills and extensive experience with interdisciplinary collaboration in a large organization
  • Have strong analytical capacity and ability to set direction across the organization
  • Have good organizational skills and a knack for governing processes

We also expect you to be proactive, to enjoy working both independently and in a team, to be able to handle many different tasks and tight deadlines. We are a workplace that values good collaboration and well-being, and as our new colleague we hope you will contribute to that.

We offer

An exciting position where you will work at the top of a strong state agency and help to make the Environmental Protection Agency one coherent authority. You will join a dynamic team consisting of several other directorate secretaries and a student assistant. We offer an engaging professional environment with a relaxed and informal tone, where we value a friendly chat over lunch.

You will have good opportunities for professional and personal development in an organization that actively works with leadership, competences and working methods so that we can deliver safely and effectively – even during change and pressure.

Salary and employment conditions

The place of employment will be at our headquarters: Environmental Protection Agency, Lerchesgade 35, 5000 Odense C.

Salary and employment conditions are in accordance with the applicable agreement between the Ministry of Finance and a number of Academic organizations for academics in the state (Academic Agreement) as either an adviser or consultant depending on your qualifications. The employment area is the Ministry of Environment with associated institutions.
