About the job
Do you want to lead a completely new Family House and help shape it from the very beginning?
As the first leader of Tryg Foundation's Family House Aalborg, you get a rare opportunity to set the direction and create the framework for a house that will make a noticeable difference for families when life is at its hardest. You will have a versatile role with great responsibility and ownership - close to the families and the volunteers and with relations to the hospital, businesses, foundations and other partners.
We are looking for someone who primarily is passionate about the cause and wants to be the visible and unifying front figure for Family House.
About Tryg Foundation's Family House Aalborg
Tryg Foundation's Family House Aalborg is established at Aalborg University Hospital as a service to families where a close family member is hospitalized in a longer, acute critical or chronic illness trajectory.
When serious illness strikes, it affects the whole family. Everyday life is paused, the family can be torn between home and hospital, and practical and emotional burdens fill the days.
The Family House should be a sanctuary close to the hospital - a place where families can be together and maintain some of the everyday and family life that can be hard to make room for during hospitalization. Here there should be room for community and presence, but also for retreat and being themselves.
The house will have 10 family apartments plus common areas, and is run as an independent institution with its own board. Daily operations are handled by the manager, an administrative employee and a corps of volunteers.
About the position
As the leader you enter at a very special moment. You do not take over a finished organization, but become a central part of creating it yourself.
Your central responsibilities will be to
- be responsible for the daily management and operation of Family House
- employ the administrative employee and build, lead and develop Family House's volunteer corps
- translate Family House's purpose and values into culture, workflows and a well-functioning everyday life
- develop a close collaboration with the hospital's relevant departments and help develop the concrete visitation practice
- have overall responsibility for finances and operations within the set framework
- actively work with fundraising, room sponsorships, grant applications and relations with sponsors and partners
- serve the board and represent Family House externally
When the house opens, you will be a visible and present leader with your daily base at Family House. You must be in tune with the pulse and know both the families, the volunteers and everyday life in the house.
The families and the volunteers
Family House is more than the physical frame. The way families are met is at least as important.
Families should experience that there is room to be exactly where they are. Some need community and a conversation. Others need peace and privacy. And sometimes there needs to be room for the feelings that have been held back at the hospital to fill the space.
As leader you must be able to meet families with presence, empathy and calm. But an equally important task will be to create a culture where staff and volunteers are equipped to do the same.
The volunteers will become a significant part of Family House's driving force and will, among other things, contribute with activities and social interaction with families, playing and caring for children, cooking, practical tasks, and helping create a homely atmosphere in the house.
You will play a central role in recruiting, organizing, motivating and retaining the volunteers and creating a community where they know their role and feel safe to seek support from you.
Collaboration with the hospital and external relations
The Family House must have close cooperation with Aalborg University Hospital. As leader you will be an important bridge between Family House and the hospital's departments. You must build relationships with the relevant clinical environments and contribute to ensuring that hospital staff know about Family House and for which families the offering is relevant.
Fundraising and external relations will also be a central part of the job. The Family House must annually provide about 1.3–1.4 million DKK in external financing - of which about 1 million DKK through room sponsorships and an additional 300,000–400,000 DKK through financial donations or in-kind items.
Together with the administrative employee you will actively work on fundraising and relations with sponsors, foundations and other contributors. The board and Family House ambassadors contribute with networks and relevant contacts, while you take a central role in developing and nurturing the relationships.
You do not need to be a professional fundraiser, but you must enjoy building relationships and engaging others in a cause you believe in.
Who are you?
Your educational background is not in itself decisive for us. What matters is that you can see yourself in Family House's purpose and genuinely want to lead it.
We expect that you
- have managerial experience, but you do not need to have already been the head of an organization or department. Your experience could be from personnel management, team leadership, coordinating roles or from creating direction and followership among employees or volunteers
- have empathy and human understanding and can meet people in a serious and vulnerable life situation with calm, respect and presence
- can accommodate strong emotions without getting overly involved yourself and at the same time be clear and set respectful boundaries when the situation requires it
- thrive in an outward-facing role, seek relationships and communicate naturally with different people
- take initiative, find solutions and can create structure along the way - even when not everything is given in advance
- have ordinary financial understanding and can take responsibility for Family House operating within the fixed financial framework. The administrative employee will handle a large part of the daily financial and accounting administration
It would be an advantage if you
- have experience with personnel management
- have a health care background or otherwise have in-depth understanding of people and families in serious and challenging life situations
- have experience from a hospital
- have experience with volunteers and volunteer management
- have experience with fundraising, sponsorships, partnerships or grant applications
- have contributed to establishing or developing a new offering, a function or an initiative
- have experience with communication and relationship-building across organizations and professional disciplines
We do not expect our future leader to be able to tick every box from day one . For us it is more important that you have the right foundation, commitment and willingness to develop in the role than that you have already tried all parts of the job.
We offer
- great influence on how Family House's purpose and values are translated into practice
- a versatile leadership role with relations to families, volunteers, the hospital and external partners
- great independence and room to act within the framework set by the board
- a proactive board, which especially in the establishment period will be a sparring partner and help to get the new organization off to a good start
- the opportunity to lead an offering that will make a concrete difference for families in some of their most difficult periods
Reporting
You will be the daily manager of Tryg Foundation's Family House Aalborg and report to the institution's board.
The board sets the overall strategic and financial framework, while you have a large independent responsibility for the daily operation and development of Family House.
Establishment of Tryg Foundation's Family House Aalborg
The construction is expected to be completed in December 2026. Thereafter follows interior fittings and the organizational and practical preparation of the house ahead of the expected opening for the first families in March 2027.
The interior contract is included in the construction project, and an interior architect is already connected. The project management is also working to secure donations for furnishings.
As the upcoming leader you will start on January 1, 2027 and will thus be part of the final establishment phase leading up to the opening.

The position is full-time with a start on January 1, 2027.
