Young man with muscular dystrophy seeks staff for long weekend shifts

Do you want to be a fixed part of daily life with a young man, where you help with practical tasks, personal care and at the same time can join him for social activities? We are looking for two permanent helpers for long shifts on weekends and during school holidays.

About the task

You will become a fixed part of the daily life of a young person who is in 10th grade at a boarding school and is home most weekends and school holidays. He is fond of computers and often plays with his friends. In addition, he is interested in LEGO, cars and history.

You will help with practical tasks and personal care in the family’s home, but you also accompany as a helper if he is meeting friends, going to the cinema or taking part in other social activities.

The young person has muscular dystrophy and uses an electric wheelchair and lift. On day shifts you help with what he needs during the day, including toilet visits and other personal care. You also drive the car when he needs to go out.

On night shifts you help with the fixed evening and morning routines. In the evening you help him get ready for the night, including brushing teeth, toilet visits and undressing. When he sleeps, your role is to be available if he wakes and needs help, e.g. to turn him or adjust his duvet. You sleep in the room.

In the morning you help him get up and support as needed with washing, personal care and dressing.

There is a dog in the home.

About you

It is important that you work calmly and systematically and are comfortable helping with personal care with respect for the young person’s integrity. You are attentive and can step in as needed during the night. At the same time you can naturally engage in a 1:1 relationship and follow the fixed routines around evening and morning. You will be trained by a colleague and by the parents.

You must have a driver’s license, as driving is part of the task.

Working hours

We are looking for two permanent staff who share the mentioned shifts among themselves. The concrete split is agreed based on how many shifts each person can take.

Day shifts are on Saturdays and Sundays from 12:00 to 22:00 in 2–4 weekends per month.

Night shifts are on Fridays and Saturdays from 22:00 to 10:00 in 2–4 weekends per month.

There may also be shifts on weekdays during school holidays.
