About the job

Do you want to work with financial risks, capital and supervision in a strong professional environment?

Are you interested in banks, financial risks, analyses and regulation? Do you want to work closely with Danish banks’ business models, capital conditions and risk management? Then perhaps you are the person we are looking for as a trainee in the Office for Supervision of smaller and medium-sized banks (MIPI1).

As a trainee in MIPI1 you will be part of the Financial Supervisory Authority’s work to supervise Danish banks. You will have responsibility for your own tasks, professional sparring and the opportunity to develop yourself in a strong professional environment with great societal importance.

The position is particularly relevant for you if you have an economic background and a few years’ experience from, for example, the financial sector or a regulatory authority.

Who are we?

We are 17 dedicated employees, primarily economists and lawyers. We are responsible for supervision of Danish smaller and medium-sized banks. We also have responsibility for certain rules on capital requirements, capital adequacy in lending, solvency needs and securitisation.

The office is divided into a team responsible for bank supervision and investigations and a team responsible for regulation and the capital area.

We work together across the two teams through joint tasks, professional sparring and knowledge sharing. In addition, we conduct inspections together with colleagues from our other Office for Supervision of Banks (MIPI2) and skilled specialists from the Financial Supervisory Authority’s various specialist offices.

Your tasks

As a trainee you will play an important role in the office’s ongoing supervision of smaller and medium-sized banks. You will prepare assessments of banks’ significant risks and you will participate in inspections.

Your tasks may include, among others, to

  • draft risk assessments of banks
  • analyze banks’ business models, risk profiles and profitability
  • assess significant risks and governance, e.g. credit risk, capital adequacy, solvency needs, risk management and compliance
  • handle applications, e.g. for reduction of the capital base and for management’s competence and integrity
  • participate in investigations and inspections of banks
  • analyze and report on different issues and risks

You will have your own areas of responsibility, and the tasks will be tailored to your qualifications, experience and interests. In time you may become a department head for selected banks or a case leader, and you can also become a specialist in one or more risk areas.

What do we expect from you?

You have a relevant academic background, preferably as cand.polit., cand.merc., cand.oecon., cand.merc.aud., cand.merc.jur. or another relevant economic or financial education.

It is an advantage if you have a couple of years of relevant experience and if you have worked with economic analyses, financial statements, capital issues and risk management. It is not a requirement that you previously have worked with supervision.

We emphasize that you

  • have an interest in financial supervision, banks and regulation
  • can work analytically with complex issues
  • work in a structured, independent and quality-conscious manner
  • take responsibility for your tasks and ensure progress
  • communicate clearly both in writing and orally
  • thrive in cross-disciplinary and cross-team collaboration
  • are solution-oriented and contribute positively to the group
  • can and will go the extra mile when necessary
  • are prepared for 5-10 travel days per quarter in connection with inspections of Danish and possibly North Atlantic banks

What can we offer you?

We offer a job with exciting and societally relevant tasks, where you gain insight into banks’ risks, business models and regulation.

With us you get

  • responsibility for your own cases and an opportunity to influence your job content
  • good opportunities for professional and personal development
  • a strong professional environment with focus on quality, collaboration and learning

You will work at our premises in Christianshavn alongside the Financial Supervisory Authority’s approx. 450 employees. We have an internal career and competence program and attractive working conditions, including flexitime, the option to work from home, paid lunch break, canteen, massage program, dry cleaning, free parking and social activities and clubs.

Terms of employment

Employment is offered under the current agreement between AC and the Ministry of Finance. You will as a general rule be employed as a trainee. Placement is based on qualifications and experience.

The position is a permanent full-time position, and you will be subject to the internal guidelines that apply to employees in the Financial Supervisory Authority.

There is also a cooling-off agreement if you, after entering the Financial Supervisory Authority, wish to move to a company under supervision or to associated interest or trade organisations. If the cooling-off period becomes relevant, it generally entails a three-month break between employments with wage compensation.
