About the job

Do you want to help support and develop one of Europe’s leading archives in digital societal documentation? Are you the detective type who is good at conducting challenging archival investigations and providing excellent customer service? Then you are the employee we are looking for.

About the National Archives

With almost 1000 years of analogue and digital societal documentation, the National Archives is Denmark’s memory and knowledge centre for the development of Danish society. We collect, preserve and provide original documents and data that support the needs of the knowledge and rule-of-law society and create new insights and understandings of our society. At the National Archives you will become part of an ambitious and modern organisation.

In close collaboration with our users, we continuously strive to be an important player in the public digital infrastructure, so that our large amount of data creates the greatest possible value for citizens, researchers, businesses and public authorities.

The job

You will become part of the National Archives’ Unit for Revenue-Generating Activities, where we solve paid tasks within the archival disciplines of documentation, registration and arrangement, archival investigations, digitisation and consultancy for public authorities and companies. The position is linked to our business area “Documentation,” where we are a capable and highly engaged team, and we look forward to involving you in our community around solving tasks.

Your main tasks consist of complex archival investigations in the form of identifying information in the submitted analogue and digital material. It is expected that you can read handwriting back to at least the 1700s and preferably even older material. If you are called for an interview, there will be a handwriting reading test.

In addition, there is the possibility to influence your task portfolio depending on your particular competencies, for example contributing to project management of larger tasks, preparing offers to users who have very specific wishes for how the National Archives’ collections are used, and much more – our diverse tasks ensure that your competencies will certainly come into play.

In your task solving, we expect you to have a high degree of orderliness and systematicity as well as an understanding of the importance that your work is performed meticulously and efficiently. It is also of considerable importance that you understand that we operate on commercial terms, and therefore productivity is weighed very highly, but never at the expense of quality.

About you

We do not attach too much weight to the exact educational background, but rather to your professional qualifications. We do expect you to have a master’s-level academic education, and that you have experience with larger and more complex archival investigations in material from the 16th to the 21st century.

We are looking for someone who

  • can read various older handwritten texts, at least from the 1700s
  • can handle a pace of work where it can be very busy
  • can and wants to work digitally
  • understands the importance of correct documentation of events
  • can work independently and in teams
  • has experience serving customers via email and telephone
  • can deliver good service and manage expectations with customers
  • is persistent and asks for help when a task is tricky

About us

You will become part of a unit with high professionalism, strong commitment and good spirits. Our everyday work is characterized by a strong team spirit and the joy of solving problems together. We place emphasis on a high degree of professionalism, credibility and responsibility in the tasks we solve.

With us, presence with colleagues matters a lot, and we believe that collaboration and knowledge sharing across the National Archives are crucial for a good working environment. At the same time, we want to ensure flexibility for our employees, and remote work is arranged on an ongoing basis between the manager and the employee when it is compatible with task execution.

It is important to us that you get a good start at the National Archives. The first weeks include an introductory programme, where you have ample opportunity to get to know your new colleagues and the organisation and to get started with your tasks.

Salary and employment terms

You will be employed under the applicable collective agreement at any given time between the Ministry of Finance and AC. Working hours are an average of 37 hours per week. We offer flexible working hours and value a good balance between work and private life.

The position is located in the National Archives’ Unit for Revenue-Generating Activities and the workplace is in Viborg, Vennershåbsvej 1.

The job is to be filled on 01.01.2027.

It is a requirement that you have a valid driver's license (category B).

It is a condition of employment that you can be security-approved to level “Confidential,” and you must be able to maintain the security clearance during your entire employment.
