About the job
Pilestræde is Berlingske's daily news podcast and flagship in audio. Around it we have a growing audio universe with several formats, and we have ambitions to develop even more.
Berlingske has a strong profile as Denmark's free, independent and civic newspaper. We have an engaged audience that expects journalism with perspective, edge and high credibility. That should also be felt in our audio.
Therefore we are looking for a leading editor who can set the editorial direction and help develop the formats that will make Berlingske even stronger in audio.
An editor who can lead
You as our new audio editor should propel us forward notably so that our users increasingly experience Berlingske as an audio product. You will be the editorial driving force on audio and the leader of an editorial team with five permanent staff and three student helpers. You should set the direction, prioritise stories and formats and be a close sparring partner for journalists, planners and hosts.
You should have a desire to lead – and preferably experience with it. You will be responsible for creating clear frameworks, developing the staff and ensuring the editorial team functions well, even when pace is high. You should also be able to collaborate with other editors and lift audio across the house.
We are looking for an editor who not only distributes tasks but who makes others succeed. You can sharpen an idea, ask the critical question and give qualified feedback. And you can make decisions when priorities must be set.
From idea to finished podcast
You should be able to think long-term and also get things done.
Together with the audio editorial team and Berlingske's other editorial departments you will have the opportunity to develop new podcasts and series from the initial idea to the finished production. You will get close to the stories, the profiles and the editorial ideas that fill Berlingske, and you will play a central role in turning them into audio.
At the same time we are a news house. Pilestræde is published every weekday, and major agendas can change the plan from one hour to the next. You must be able to keep an overview when the news flow changes, priorities shift, and the tempo rises – without compromising quality.
You should therefore thrive with planning, prioritising and execution.
You must love audio
You have solid editorial experience and knowledge of audio and podcast production. You should understand audio as a journalistic storytelling form and you should know what makes a production work both editorially, dramaturgically and journalistically. You should be able to listen critically and hear when something works and when it can be improved. And not least, what makes listeners stay and come back.
You should also be able to step in as host. You should be confident with the microphone and be able to elevate the host role so you can show a way forward yourself.
The most important is that you want to be an editor, a leader and an active part of the editorial product at an ambitious newsroom, where we take journalism and each other seriously.
We imagine that you
- have solid journalistic and editorial experience
- have experience with the editor role and preferably people management
- know the audio and podcast medium inside out
- are strong at idea development, sparring and editorial direction
- can create an overview and bring productions safely to the finish line
- thrive in a daily where the news agenda can change the plan at any time
- want to develop both people, journalism and new formats
You will become part of Berlingske's audiovisual division and the house's management team and will come close to some of the country’s most skilled journalists and strongest stories.
We have already built a strong audio universe. Now we are looking for the editor who will lift Berlingske to a new level audio-wise.
Send your application, CV and preferably examples of editorial work or audio productions you have been responsible for. We would like to hear how you work as an editor, how you lead others and which ideas you have for where Berlingske's audio universe can move.
