Chief Consultant for our data initiative in crop production

SEGES Innovation is seeking a chief consultant, who can bridge between plant science knowledge, data and digital solutions.

Do you have the overview that makes many disciplines work together? And do you have experience working with complex data sets – and a desire to translate data into new knowledge and concrete solutions for agriculture? We are looking for a professionally strong and unifying profile who can be the driving force in the work with data within plant production. We are indeed in the process of gathering relevant data about plant production into one common database, so data becomes easier to access, understand and use across the organization.

We have the data, the plant-science specialists and technical competencies. But we miss you, who can create coherence between the disciplines, ensure data quality and help translate data into value for both colleagues and Danish agriculture.

About the job

You will be the scientific bridge between Plants & Environment and our digital specialists. Your task will be to ensure that data are not only collected, but also understood, validated and used correctly. You will help collect, structure and compile data from our different databases. At the same time you will contribute to quality assuring and enriching data based on your professional insight into plant production and agriculture.

Therefore it is important that you have a good understanding of the processes in crop production and a sense for typical growing conditions across crops, for example what the yield is in wheat, or how many kg of nitrogen a corn field should receive. Finally, you must have an eye for how data can be compiled and analyzed so that they contribute with new insight.

All of this you will carry out in collaboration with colleagues at SEGES Innovation, but you will be responsible for driving the work in the right direction.

Your tasks will include, among others, to

• act as the link between Plants & Environment, SEGES Innovation Digital and our shared database
• initiate collaborations and build relationships across the organization
• contribute to collection, structuring, validation and enrichment of data from different data sources
• support colleagues in understanding both internal and publicly available data
• contribute to decisions on data setup, data models and presentation of data for further use
• identify new opportunities for using data in the organization
• contribute with professional assessments of data and results within plant production, climate and environment

You will work with both internal and external data sources, including data related to cultivation, fertilization, yields and environmental conditions.

About you

We envision that you have strong competencies within data, digital systems and analytics, combined with an agrarian understanding. You must be proactive and good at collaborating with many different disciplines and personality types. It is important that you can take responsibility and work independently to define and drive tasks.

Furthermore, we would like you to have

• A relevant master's degree, e.g. agronomist, biologist, engineer or similar
• Minimum 5 years of relevant professional experience
• Experience with data-driven analyses and work with larger or complex data sets, preferably complemented with insight into authorities' data systems. Knowledge of Python, SQL or similar is an advantage, but we do not expect you to be a programmer.
• Good professional judgment, a sense for quality and understanding of the professional background underlying data (e.g. agriculture, environment, production, climate, etc.)
• An outgoing personality that thrives on building relationships and is motivated to get different disciplines to collaborate on common solutions

About us

We offer a professionally strong environment with freedom to influence the tasks and the opportunity to work with some of the most central data and issues in Danish agriculture. You will become part of a team with ten dedicated colleagues who work with many different areas within climate, nitrogen regulation and plant production. In addition, you will collaborate with a number of colleagues across the main departments Plants & Environment and Digital. A common thread for all of us is a good tone and a strong willingness to help and spar with each other.

Do you want to help build a bridge between agricultural expertise and data? Then we look forward to hearing from you.

When recruiting at SEGES Innovation, we primarily prioritize your professional expertise and personality. We see diversity as a strength, therefore all with the right competencies are encouraged to apply – regardless of ethnic background, religion, gender identity and age.
