Chief Consultant for policy development and political support in the veterans field

Do you want to work closely with management in a politically governed organization and help develop the Defence veterans' efforts? Then you might be our new Chief Consultant in the Leadership Secretariat in the Personnel Command.

About us

The Personnel Command is the Danish Ministry of Defence's overall HR organization and is responsible for all personnel-related work in the group – from recruitment and training to administration and development of employees.

In the Leadership Secretariat we work closely together to create direction, overview and coherence in an organization that is developing. We support the management with both classic leadership support and coordination of complex, cross-cutting matters. Tasks and tempo vary, and therefore two days are rarely the same. We place emphasis on high quality in our deliveries, propriety, collaboration and a strong collegial community.

About the position

It is essential that both soldiers and relatives to the soldiers we deploy receive the help and support they need, both before and during deployment and after return. The veteran area has strong political attention, and there is high demand for more and strengthened efforts for veterans.

We are now strengthening the work in this area and are looking for an experienced chief consultant who can function as our primary case handler and coordinator in the area.

You will have independent responsibility to drive cases from problem statement to finished product. This includes, among other things, analyzing complex issues, identifying action options and preparing sharp decision bases that can be used by the management and the political level. In this connection you will work closely with the Veteran Center.

Your tasks will include, among others

• Prepare decision proposals, briefings, analyses and reports to the management and political level, particularly in relation to settlement initiatives in the veteran area – but it can also be in other areas
• Prepare and coordinate ministerial replies, committee questions and other products for politicians
• Have overall responsibility for coordinating and driving matters with veteran-related relevance – including handling citizen inquiries and high-profile or public matters
• Advise the management on developments in the veteran area and translate professional knowledge into strategic recommendations and concrete courses of action
• Coordinate between different stakeholders and ensure progress in complex and cross-cutting case processes

You will become a central part of the Leadership Secretariat and will play an important role as the link between the Personnel Command, the Veteran Center, the Defence Command and the Ministry of Defence’s department.

About you

You have a relevant academic education and experience at a level that matches a chief consultant. You have solid experience from a politically governed organization, e.g., a ministry, an agency, or another organization with close contact to political decision-makers.

It is a requirement that you have experience with political servicing and with producing written products for the political level. You are used to working with, for example, decision proposals, ministerial replies, committee questions, briefings and reports, and can independently drive the process from the initial problem statement to the finished product.

It is an advantage if you have experience from or knowledge about the veteran area, but this is not a requirement.

Employment terms

The employment is governed by the current collective agreement between the Ministry of Finance and a number of academic organizations for academics in the state (Academic Collective Agreement).

Depending on your qualifications and competencies, there is potential for negotiation of a supplement. The position is linked to an employer-financed pension scheme.

The workplace is in Ballerup.

As an employee under the Ministry of Defence’s area you are subject to some special conditions. You must, among other things, be security cleared and maintain the security clearance throughout the employment relationship.

As an employee you have a duty to perform service outside the country’s borders, including at units in international operations with a view to participating in conflict prevention, peacekeeping, peace-building, humanitarian and other similar operations.
