Church Caretaker at Vollsmose Church in Odense as of January 1, 2027

The Parish Council of Vollsmose Church is seeking a committed, service-minded and practically oriented church caretaker from January 1, 2027. Our church is a living community, and as a church caretaker you play a central role in ensuring that the church space and outdoor areas always appear inviting for everything from high mass and cafés to community meals and intercultural events. You will become part of a close team where we pull together and thrive on a varied daily life where no two days are the same.

Your primary tasks and areas of responsibility

• The church space and liturgical actions:
• Preparation and cleanup for high masses, funerals/burials, weddings and other liturgical actions.
• Setup of lights, communion bread, wine, hymnals and operation of sound and microphone equipment.
• Preparation of rooms for special activities.
• Preparation and service in parish halls and café:
• Setting up tables and chairs as well as table settings for events (e.g. Monday café, staff and parish council meetings, community meals, etc.).
• Brewing of coffee and tea and preparation of service trolleys.
• Light kitchen tasks and ongoing shopping as needed.
• Cleaning and maintenance:
• Ongoing cleaning, vacuuming and dusting in the church space, parish halls, offices, kitchen, corridors and toilets.
• Periodic deep cleaning (including polishing silverware, carpet cleaning, cleaning of towers, panels and radiators).
• Maintenance indoors and outdoors in our vicarage.
• Outdoor areas and building:
• Maintenance of outdoor areas (sweeping, litter collection, mowing in summer and snow clearing/salting in winter).
• Raising the flag and minor ongoing repairs/maintenance.
• Administration:
• Recruiting volunteers for the church's many events in cooperation with the parish council.
• Carrying out minor purchases for the church.

We are looking for a profile who

• Is practically minded, has good orderliness and takes initiative independently.
• Meets the church's guests, parish residents and colleagues with a smile, helpfulness and an approachable attitude.
• Can work independently while also being a good team player.
• Is flexible and open to varying working hours, including evening and weekend work.
• May already have completed the church caretaker education or is ready to complete it.
• Very preferably has a driver's license and access to their own car.

Salary and terms of employment

Employment is through Vollsmose Parish Council, located at Risingsvej 140, 5240 Odense N O.

Employment is covered by the Combined Agreement between the Ministry of Finance and Public Sector Organizations (OAO-S) and the Organizational Agreement for church functionaries with core tasks as church caretaker or sexton, entered into between the Ministry of Ecclesiastical Affairs and the Danish Church Service Association and the accompanying protocol for church caretakers. • Education: It is a condition that the mandatory 5-week training for church caretakers is completed within 2 years after the start of employment, if you do not already have it.
• Salary: The annual salary for a full-time position is set within the range 324,667 DKK – 408,841 DKK (current kroner). The placement in the salary range is agreed between the parish council and the Danish Church Caretaker Association.
• Allowances: There is a standby obligation for the position with an annual standby allowance of 33,231 DKK (current kroner) as well as an annual OK allowance of 1,401 DKK (current kroner). Salary and allowances are prorated according to the final employment fraction.
• Probation & Certifications: The first 3 months of employment are probationary. For the employment, a child certificate, criminal record check and references will be obtained.
• Civil servants: Current civil servant employed church caretakers have the right to retain their civil servant status upon direct transition to the position.

The position is desired to be filled on January 1, 2027.
