About the job
A position as a specialist physician with a function in the Diagnostic Center, OUH Svendborg Hospital, is available for occupancy as of 1 December 2026 or by agreement.
Diagnostic Center
Diagnostic Center (DC) handles ambulatory assessment of patients with
- Suspected serious disease that could be cancer (MAS)
- Metastases without known primary tumor (MUP)
- Non-specific symptoms that are not deemed suitable for investigation in general practice without unnecessary delay
In addition, patients are received for continued examination and assessment that could not be diagnostically clarified from the medical and surgical departments at OUH.
Patient pathways in Diagnostic Center (DC) are focused and accelerated, and the goal is rapid clarification. We are colleagues with a very close collaboration within the group of doctors, nurses and secretaries. There is interdisciplinary collaboration around the investigation of the highest professional quality and the least possible delay. Everyone works to give the patient an experience that their pathway is coordinated and secured across departments.
In collaboration with Daghospital Svendborg (DH) we perform procedures for patients in our own unit and for Svendborg Hospital (pleural puncture, ascites puncture, lumbar puncture and bone marrow examination) as well as transfusion and infusion treatments. Consultants in DC solely perform bone marrow examinations, and the other functions are handled by the M/FAM on-call team and nurses in DH.
As part of the Medical Department M/FAM, we draw on the expertise of the various internal medicine subspecialties represented in the department. Multidisciplinary conferences (MDT) have been established, including a specific MUP-MDT, as well as well-functioning formal collaboration agreements with departments across OUH regarding the diagnostic pathways.
DC was established in 2013 with about 1,700 new pathways (total about 3,100 visits), which in 2018 rose to about 2,500 new pathways, when OUH’s MAS and MUP pathways on 1 May 2017 were consolidated in Svendborg. We diagnose around 1,000 MAS and 200 MUP patients annually. We have nearly 100% compliance with our cancer package diagnostics.
The medical staff in DC consists of four permanently affiliated specialists and junior doctors in training in the internal medicine specialties and general practice. Interdisciplinary collaboration and supervision of nursing staff and younger colleagues are highly prioritized.
An active research environment has been established in DC, currently with one research/patient pathway coordinator, one nursing patient pathway coordinator, several MAS – /MUP- research projects as well as regional projects concerning the creation of a database and studies of Group 3 patients in RSD. DC has participated in the development of Cancer Plan V, which is implemented with, among other things, the creation of a national database (DCDB) via SundK in 2028.
