About the job

Would you like to help create a strong financial decision-making basis?

Would you like to work with finance close to managers and areas and at the same time contribute to a solid and fair financial decision basis for the management and politicians in Frederikshavn Municipality?

We are looking for curious and analytical controllers who want to work broadly with municipal financial management. You don't need to be a specialist. We are looking for strong financial generalists with an eye for the connection between finance, operations, management and political decisions.

We are seeking two new controllers. One of our colleagues has gotten a new job, and at the same time we strengthen the controller department with an extra position. This gives us the opportunity to strengthen financial management, budget follow-up and financial sparring with the organization.

A role with both controlling and advisory

As a controller you will have several roles. Sometimes you are the controller who makes an independent financial assessment, challenges assumptions and clarifies risks and consequences. Other times you are the consultant who, together with managers and areas, analyzes issues and finds solutions. Often you are the financial sparring partner who translates numbers and analyses into clear messages for management, the executive board and the political level.

For us, good collaboration is not the same as always agreeing. You must be able to understand the perspectives of the departments and at the same time maintain your professional integrity and stand by a well-founded financial assessment.

Objectivity and a fair decision basis

We have a particular focus on the quality and objectivity of budget follow-up. The central finance department must help ensure that the management and politicians get a fair and professionally grounded picture of the municipality's expected finances. Your assessments must therefore be based on data, relevant assumptions and professional analysis. You must be curious about the departments' knowledge, but also be able to maintain the necessary professional distance.

We do not expect you to always have the answer in advance. We expect you to ask the right questions, investigate the issue and dare to stand by your conclusion.

Your tasks

  • Budgeting, budget follow-up, accounting, forecasts and financial sparring with managers and leaders.
  • Analysis of the financial development, including risks, uncertainties and key points of attention.
  • Management information and financial decision proposals to management, the executive board and the political level.
  • Constructively challenge financial assumptions and contribute to the development of financial management and workflows.

An important part of the job is the ability to distinguish between detail and the essential and to convey complex financial issues briefly and understandably.

Experienced or at the start of your career

There may be several ways into the job. Maybe you already work as a controller and want a broad role with close contact with managers and departments. Or perhaps you are a recent graduate or at the start of your career and want to translate your professionalism and analytical approach into practice.

If you have experience with financial management, that is naturally an advantage, but it is not a prerequisite.

Who are you?

Your exact educational background is less important than your way of thinking and working. You may, for example, have a financial, social science or other relevant education. We especially emphasize that you:

  • have good financial and analytical understanding and can quickly familiarize yourself with new areas
  • can look behind the numbers, create an overview and translate analyses into short and clear messages
  • can collaborate constructively and at the same time have professional integrity to stand by your assessment
  • have an eye for, that financial assessments are part of a larger management and political context.

We see it as a strength if you can ask: “How can we help?” and “Can it be financially sustainable?”

What do we offer?

You will become part of the central finance department and a professional environment where we use each other, share knowledge and dare to challenge each other\'s assessments. You will have a broad contact surface, close collaboration with the municipality's departments and leaders and insight into the interplay between finance, the executive and the political level. If you are new to municipal finance, we will ensure you get well started in the tasks. We use KMD Opus Økonomi as our financial system and knowledge of it will be an advantage, but not a requirement.

In short, we are looking for controllers who can help the organization find solutions and at the same time dare to ask the critical questions. For us, good relationships are a prerequisite for good advisory services, while professional integrity and objectivity are prerequisites for good financial management.

We sit in an open-plan office at the town hall in Frederikshavn and place emphasis on both professionalism and good collegiality – with room for laughter and community in daily life. There will be the possibility of working from home, considering task solution.
