Strategic development of a well-run utility

You take over a well-run and financially robust utility with 6 dedicated employees, where you as CEO will have a central role in daily life and in the development of Ærø.

The responsibilities and tasks are both strategic and operational. The utility must deliver stable and secure supply daily, but in the coming years there will be new requirements for groundwater protection, wastewater, climate adaptation, waste and circular economy, cyber- and physical security - and thus large investments. Results are not created through traditional solutions, but through the ability to think creatively and find paths that strengthen the whole.

As CEO you will, with reference to the board, have overall responsibility for leading and developing Ærø Forsyning. The board has a clear, sustainable vision for Ærø Forsyning, and your main task is to translate the vision into strategic direction and concrete goals, investments and results, alongside leading and developing the organisation so that there is stable, safe and efficient operation of the company's supply areas.

Your main tasks include

• Ensure future drinking water through long-term planning, groundwater protection and high security of supply.
• Develop the wastewater area with focus on climate, overflows, treatment requirements and renovation of the pipeline network.
• Develop the waste area with more direct reuse, circular economy and safe environmental operation.
• Ensure financial robustness and a responsible balance between investments and consumer prices.
• Strengthen and develop the organisation, competencies, emergency preparedness and succession.
• Ensure compliance with among others NIS2, CER and other authorities' requirements.

You do not have to take on the task alone. You will have support from the utility's skilled employees, and perhaps one of your first tasks will be to hire an operations manager. In addition there is close collaboration with consultants, contractors, SamAqua etc. Most know the utility very well. You will of course also be an active and constructive partner for the board, Ærø Municipality, authorities, business sector and the local community in a broad sense, just as you will have the opportunity to participate in various networks and trade associations.

Who are you?

The most important is that you as a leader are clear and trust-building, and that you can provide direction while respecting the expertise that exists in the organisation. You do not need to be a specialist in all utilities disciplines, but you understand complex technical and regulatory issues and create a solid basis for decision-making. Emphasis is particularly placed on the fact that you:

• Have relevant management experience from utilities, infrastructure, engineering, environment or another regulated company.
• Have a strong strategic and financial understanding and experience with larger investments or projects.
• Can navigate professionally in the interplay between a board, a municipal owner and an operations organisation.

You work in a structured way with risk, security, regulatory requirements and documentation. Your communication is clear, and you build good relationships - both internally and externally. You are also open to the tasks being varied in a smaller utility - also for a CEO.

Last but not least, you want to engage in Ærø and learn about the special opportunities and conditions that characterize an island community. Ideally you are prepared to live on Ærø, where your family is also welcome. The island offers many opportunities for both children and adults of all ages. We also welcome you if you have the possibility of a realistic commuting setup.
